He was born in Canada from American parents

I always thought you have to be born in US to run for President. So citizenship from parents can do the job as well then. Thanks for answering my question.

I am not sure why you'd think you have to give anything up. You can have dual or triple citizenship, it would not change a thing unless Austria does not allow it. (Ted Cruz's a senator with Canadian citizenship which he did not renounce until running for President )

Congrats Lela37

NOPE, Austria does not allow it, that‘s the thing :/

I assume you looked into it, but I think AUstria does allow to get another citizenship on a case by case basis, depending on individual circumstances.

I did, thanks!

And i also had a talk with a good friend who works for the government and they don‘t really like seeing somebody asking for dual citizenship therefore they also don‘t grant it very often.

At least that‘s what I heard, but whenever the time comes for me to be eligible for US citizenship I might look into more information on that, maybe thkngs will change ;)

It's similar in Germany so I gave up my German citizenship. Don't want to beg them to let me keep something I'm entitled to by birth.

Oh really? I didn‘t know you had to do this too!

I mean I guess I kinda get why a country would do this, but on the other side...I don‘t understand it 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️
