Hello, we applied for CRBA for our little girl 4months ago and they requested for my Husband’s divorce certificate and he’s a US citizen. After the submission we were told they would be reviewing the documents. It’s been 4 months now and no response from the embassy in nig for pick up. And I have my interview coming up May 3rd at the US embassy for CR1 Visa. I hope they don’t bother me with my child’s proof of U.S citizenship

What exactly is your question?

My husband is an American citizen by naturalization and I am a foreign citizen. He filled CR-1 for me in 2016 with USCIS and I was approved in 2017 and moved to the NVC stage which I was also approved and my interview is coming up in 3 weeks. He came to Nig in 2016 and We got married in 2016 and left for the U.S and we hooked up in China March 2017 since I don’t have a U.S Visa and I got pregnant.

Just had a baby Dec 2017 and we applied for CRBA/US Passport for our baby in Jan 2018, the consular incharge interviewed my husband and i and saw the Baby before my husband left for the U.S. he said we were approved and he will start the processing of the CRBA and all should be ready after 3weeks.

After a week, I was called to come to the embassy with my husband divorce certificate from his previous marriage and the original copy was taken from me and they said they would do an investigation and if it comes out clean then we will be called for passport pick up. But it’s been 3 months now and no news, we sent a mail to the embassy and their response was “the case was under review”

how long does it take to review and investigate a document? My interview is coming up and i Would be going to the embassy with my minor child, they might ask for her passport as a proof and I hope I don’t get affected. I’m worried, I have waited for this journey to be over and be with my husband. But the process is slow. Please advice me

It can take weeks, months or even a year to do that. But it does seem to take longer than usual. Did you ever try contacting the ACS at the embassy?

Your childs status won't affect your immigration status.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...

Yes we contacted the ACS and they said and I quote “At this time, the application is under review and I have no information for you” and we kept calling. Does it take forever to review? Hope the consulate won’t question me much about my child? Thirdly, my husband’s original divorce certificate is with the ACS that’s what they are using for review. What should I do, I need it for my interview but I have only the copy of it. I’m so tired of all this

Tell them the original cert is with ACS. It is in the same building. A phone call from one department to the other should be possible.

Still on it. Passport ain’t ready yet, I don’t know what review or investigation they’re carrying out and why it’s taking forever. My interview is in a week time and I hope & pray everything works out fine.

Oh wow, that's crazy. I had no idea it could take this long. I always thought that at most six weeks the process should be over. This is giving me so much concern now. Anyways we'll see how how it goes for us when we get to that bridge.

I can truely feel your frustration my dear. Hopefully you'll get some good news soonest. And everything will be fine. Wishing you the best of luck at the interview. I'll be following your case. So kindly update when neccessary.

My interview was successful. Visa was approved and I have just 5months to report to the U.S but my baby’s passport isn’t ready. I’m just worried and it’s frustrating.
