People on here are giving you possible bad advice. They don’t know what country you are from since you didn’t fill out your profile. They are only sharing their own experience.

Depends on country. I know some comments are laughing but China and some other countries you need to provide it at the interview for K-1. There is a special department you go to get notarized that you are single. This IS a requirement for China.

For clarity any certificate available does not prove you are single, how could it, just that you are not married according to their records.

Like a Police Certificate, just that they have no records.

All you can do is get an affidavit of singleness of all the States you’ve lived at that covers the legal age of marriage.

It’s the only legal document I found that can meet such requirement if required. If another country won’t accept it, then they do a lie detector test?

Still wouldn’t work. I got married in a state I wasn’t living in. Many people go to Hawaii or Las Vegas to get married but have never lived there.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

It's not that out there. Many countries issue certificates of marital status. If there's a centralized system for marriages in place, it makes sense. It's the same way you prove you've never been convicted.

But it depends how old the certificate is at the time of presentation. How would anyone know if the presenter got married the day after obtaining the certificate. The police certificate has a certain shelf life too. It’s possible that someone was arrested the day after the certificate was generated.

It's not required for the K1. Some countries require it if you plan to marry within the country.

It is in the Philippines and must be presented at the interview

YMMV
