So, I just got off the phone with uscis, they said now in my area its anywhere from 14 months - 31.5 months before an interview might get scheduled. Thats crazy how long for processing to move. We filed last year in April, and already coming up on a year. Is this normal ? or is there anyway to move things along quicker. Her work authorization will run up in August, which means we'll have to re-apply for that.

Their estimates are never really right, but a year or longer is not uncommon. In some more difficult cases, it can certainly be over 2 years.

There's nothing to do to speed it up...it's just a waiting game.

You can apply for a renewal of the EAD at no cost, and if it's timely and properly filed, it will be automatically renewed for 180 days: https://www.uscis.gov/working-united-states/automatic-employment-authorization-document-ead-extension

By 'our area' do you mean the Dallas field office? This is really bad news for us. We aren't getting married until June 30 and will be filing AOS then. :(

I feel the same chicago office says 12 months to 2.7 years for an aos interview I'm like are you joking ! ..

Some offices are 4 months. It's really bad.   Just keep our fingers crossed.

I haven't even gotten my ead and it's been almost 4 months so everything is lagging lately

Hi Friends,

So after filing my AOS (I-485) along with I-765 and I-131 in November 2017, I finally got the update that my EAD card is ready and being mailed to me (painful wait of around 150 days). Had a couple of offers in hand and lost a few too due to the infinite time taken for the approval of EAD.I have a few questions and hope someone could help address them.

1. So the EAD card comes along with the AP too? whoever got it is it valid for 1 year or 2 years?

2. The Chicago office timeline for Green Card dates back to Aug 2015, if it really is so back in time would it really takes 2 more years for me to even get a chance to interview for the Green Card?

3. If Yes, do we have to update the EAD once it expires if the Green card application is still pending with USCIS?

Any more information shared in the subject matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

  1. EAD and AP can be 2 separate documents or a combo card. If you applied for both at the same time, they will typically issue a combo card.
  2. Is it possible? Yes. I would expect the timelines posted by USCIS to be overly cautious here as I don't think that's typical, but I'm sure it happens.
  3. An EAD issued due to a pending AOS application will be valid for 1 year. You need to apply for a renewal if it's going to expire. Current policy is if you timely and properly file for a renewal, then it will automatically be extended by 6 months. Once AOS is approved, the green card replaces the need for an EAD.
