OMG! Are you guys reading my comment?  LGBTQ+ is not the only grounds for asylum. There are grounds based on  "on association with a particular race, religion, nationality, political opinion, member of in a particular social group, or torture convention,." No one is telling him to fabricate any grounds for asylum and you guys should refrain from implying that he is looking for a reason. The burden of proof is persecution based on any one of these grounds. In other words, you can be granted asylum or refugee status if you're persecuted because of your race, religion, nationality, political opinion, social group (such as LGBTQ) or a torture convention (not sure what this one means.).

I hope this clear up the confusion.

Not sure anybody has any confusion.

Yes we are reading your comments, but you are not repaying the favor by reading ours properly. There are not many other reasons for a Nigerian to apply for asylum, yet this one seems not to apply.

its all a meaningless back-and-forth in the absence of the OP clarifying matters anyway.

I know as a Nigerian, a lot of people may think I'm only looking for reasons to stay back in the US hence my reason for seeking asylum but that's not the case here. I'm from a royal family in Nigeria and nigerians here on this platform will and can testify to the numerous rites and rituals involved in choosing the next ruler in a village setting. My dad's late, I'm supposed to succeed him and I've been rejecting the offer since the issue came up. I've been threatened physically and spiritually, I've lost my job in abuja, I've dropped out of my postgraduate study, my wife and daughter have been tried to be kidnapped all in a bid to make me consent to the ritualistic and occultic ceremony. There are a whole lot of other incidences that have happened and I may not be able to share them here on this platform. I used work and live comfortably in Nigeria before all these things happened. I would never find joy in fabricating stories cos I want to live in the US. My reason for asking questions and seeking help is cos of my family back in Nigeria. I don't know how much danger that awaits them on a daily basis from my town's people especially from the so called "king makers". I'm not a desperate man but I'm in despair.

So no basis for an Asylum claim.

In all honesty, while compelling, what you have mentioned above would most likely not support a claim to seek asylum.

Desperate, at-risk folks have a worthy claim to asylum in the US. You don't appear to qualify in your own words.

You've ignored queries about your ties to Nigeria that resulted in a CO issuing the b2 visa in the first place.

I'm not sure if he would not qualify for asylum. You need to go to one of those pro-bono places and find out.

Attempted kidnapping and harassment are serious. You need to talk to a lawyer to see whether your evidence is enough.

If you have money, you can also try to pursue graduate degree in the US. You mentioned you were doing a postgraduate degree in Nigeria? Most PhD programs provide full-funding if you have a good background/merit/research interests. At least it would buy you 5 years out of that mess; maybe by then they will forget you.
