Hi Guys,

I had my AOS interview a few weeks which went without any issues and the officer told me that I should be good for approval. The GC was ordered and sent out however I never received it. I then received an email informing me that the GC was returned to USCIS. Most likely because my address had changed and they did not make the update in time (however the interviewer assured me that it would be sent to the new address as I'd completed all the forms in time etc.) Short of it is, the GC needs to be re-issued but there is a 3-4 month wait. I need to travel shortly so I'm just trying to assess my options. Given what I've read on this forus I think my options are:

1. Travel on my AP which is still valid until June. I called USCIS and the Tier 2 representative wasn't sure if I could do this or not, even after conferring with her supervisor. The interviewer told me I could however. I asked Tier 2 about this and they referred me to US customs and borders. I need to call them and see what they say.

2. Make an InfoPass appointment and get a I-551 stamp. My field office is Newark, NJ and I'm struggling to find an appointment. I did find one at the other NJ office. Am I allowed to go to this other NJ office? Can I go somewhere closer like NY? Not sure if you can do a walk in appointment either...

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on the above 2 options? Would really appreciate some help on this.

If you have proof of imminent travel, you can try a walk in appointment for the stamp.  Be prepared for the possibility that the officer may refuse to stamp the passport since your green card is still valid, however, you just haven't received it as of yet (normally the stamp is given only when the green card is set to expire).

I would also suggest bringing whatever proof you have of the GC being sent back to USCIS for re-mailing, in that case.

Great! I need to have booked the travel in that case, from what you're saying? I was planning on only booking if I get the stamp.

And yes, I have an email notification from USCIS saying the GC has been returned.
