Thank you , if  they do not pick me for the trial same like you , that means i will be there just for 1 day?  as i understood  you  were there  for 1 day ?

Every county is different, even within CA. One of my co-workers had to show up each morning for a week. In my county though, I just have to call the day before to see if I needed to show up the next day. If I am told I am not needed, I am in the clear for a year. And if I had to go in and report that day, but was dismissed, same thing: done for a year.

Our county system was recently changed - the general rule is one trial (if not picked it's one day, or if picked can run as long as the trial) or one week of service. We had 230 persons, so they can only have about half come in per day to see if they qualify to sit on the jury. I was only there for one day, yes, but you must check in via phone or online each day afterwards, to see if I would be required for the rest of the week, even if I wasn't selected for the trial. Some courthouses are very busy, with multiple trials at the same time that they need jurors for. Some of the jurors that were there on Monday (the first group) were requested to come back again for today, so depending on your number it's entirely possible to sit more than one day of service. Thankfully since I was part of the second group, and I satisfied the judge with questions he asked, I was released from service .

As far as the trial went, the verdict came back pretty fast... as no one wanted their time wasted. I knew they would find the person guilty.

Thank you for your answer, may i know please how they select some for trial and some not for trial?  are there somethings that are looking for for those selected for trial/ week?

Well, that depends on the questions the judge will ask and your answers. Both attorneys will be looking for a supposedly unbiased and fair jury. However, the reality is, the defense will want a person that may have opinions that will swing in their client's favor... and the prosecution will be looking for someone that may be willing to convict. Without revealing specifics - we were asked questions such as if we had law enforcement in our family, if we or someone we knew had ever been convicted of a crime, or how we specifically felt about guns. Sometimes a judge might ask if you have ever been a victim of a crime or if you may have known or read facts about the case in the newspaper. I answered yes to about five of the questions the judge asked, and was then taken into a room before the judge, the attorney's, and the accused. I actually knew some things about the case from reading about it. The judge asked me what I knew, and if in knowing what I knew would cause me difficulty in rendering an unbiased verdict. I was honest and told them (and it was hard to do.. because the creepy guy was staring at me the whole time) that according to the paper and the police report at the time, that the guy had admitted to what he did, and that he had imo a duty to not do what he did, which was a very serious crime indeed. Actions have consequences. Knowing what I knew, I said I could not find him anything but guilty. This may have made me favorable to the prosecution in my answer, but not to his defense. My other answers of yes on which I was not asked further about may have not made me favorable to either party... but I will never know.

Many persons may attempt to lie to a judge about their reasons why they feel biased, some are more honest. It will really be up to the two parties to determine which person would be a good fit.
