Hi guys

Should i keep calling them to know if they received my case and get my case mumber ?

Or would they send me an email or mail with the case number ?

The only reason to call is to get a case number to start working on the next steps. NOT all Embassy are set up that will allow you to do your medical and schedule your interview until they receive your case and THEY are ready to give you permission. I work with lots of ppl who process through the Philippine Embassy and once the beneficiary gets their case they can schedule interview, complete the medical and other required prep work saving about of processing time.

Now if your Embassy doesn't allow you to begin till they say to begin then its just a waste of time because you can't start the process to shave off a month in processing time. So you are calling to get something you may not use for another month and will come to you in the form of an email.

PART TWO.  If you would like to be more at ease then call NVC and inquire about your case. I recommend that you do for this reason; I remember a couple about two years ago who waited 6 weeks to then find out that their file was sitting at USCIS the whole time and hadn't even left for NVC. I saved the explanation and here it is.

I have debated about whether or not to post about my situation, as I don't want to cause undo worry/panic.  Reading that there are a number of people outside the three week window of their case being received by NVC I thought it might be time to share.  My NOA-2 date was May 19.  I started calling the NVC around the two week mark.  After hitting the six week mark and my case having not been received, the NVC suggested that I call USCIS to see when my petition was mailed out.  On July 1st, I called USCIS and was finally able to talk to a helpful Tier 1 person who put me through to Tier 2 (was about an hour and a half wait to talk to Tier 2, but they have a callback system so you don't have to sit on the phone the whole time).  I spoke with an Officer Garcia who informed me that my petition had not been mailed out from CSC until June 29th.  Apparently, it sat there for six weeks for no good reason.  Hopefully they are being honest with me.  I have seen some cases from the past where people seem to have been given dates that weren't true.  If your case hasn't been received by NVC within four weeks, it may be worth your time to try calling USCIS and getting to talk to a Tier 2 to see if your case has been mailed out.  Some of the Tier 1 people will tell you your case left on the day of your approval notice or that nothing can be done until it has been 90 days.  My understanding is that Tier 1 does not have access to when your case was actually mailed by USCIS.  If you run into a stubborn Tier 1 that doesn't want to let you talk to Tier 2, I would suggest hanging up and trying your luck calling again.  Hopefully you will get a Tier 1 that wants to help.  As of yet, my case still hasn't been received by NVC.  It has only been a week since it was mailed out so I will wait some more.  Just a warning, NVC is stating that it can take six weeks from the time they receive the case to assign a case number, not six weeks from beginning to end.  I will update as soon as anything changes.

Hi everyone! Got my NVC case number. I called today for the first time (NOA2 April 23rd, hard copy 20th)

Then I checked the case status and it says "at NVC", I was trying to look up info about what does that mean... but all I can read is very confusing... Any ideas ?

You will go through a series of changes to your status. First is "at NVC", second "in Transit" third "at Embassy". It's all normal.

Are we meant to get an email or letter when NVC receives it or only when a case number is assigned?

You'll get an email from NVC when your case has been assigned. If you wait for that letter, it usually doesn't come for 2-3 weeks after the case is assigned. If you need the case # earlier then you need to be on the phone to NVC.

Your case is still at NVC and they haven't transferred it yet to your embassy...
