Your wife is from Luzon, I thought she was from Mindanao?   Mayon volcano is on Luzon

That's the first wife he is talking about, she is from Davao City. You know the one that he talks about how he gifted his wife the house in Davao.

This wife is from Luzon.

Well, it does sound kinda spotty at times there, honestly will just have to see how it goes. Living and vacationing are two different experiences, so I can see how living their full time would be totally different. But I do feel it is how much you put into the experience that makes it what it is, if you just sit around complaining about the noise, too hot, dusty, traffic...or what ever you will just be miserable, it ISN"T the US and shouldn't be viewed that way. I've seen people miserable no matter where or what they are doing.

Maybe you're right.  I did meet quite a few OFWs (I'd guess 50 total, men and women) while on overseas assignments.  They did seem very happy to be where they were but I'm sure they miss their families.

But for sure, it's not for me.  I like what John said a couple posts back, good for a month at a time.  And at that maybe once every 5 years.

I do miss the 50 peso haircuts though.

Best haircut I've ever gotten was in the mall for like 150 peso's, really thorough job! I wanted to tip more but the wife said no just do what we do...it felt odd to tip so little!

Whenever I get a haircut in my wife's town I always give like a 100 pesos. So whenever I show up they always put me to the front of the line and barbers will argue on who gets to cut my hair.

The are a lot of pros and cons of moving from USA to Philippines.

Could you do it?  Seems as if the guys I know who went over there and were married got bored after a short time.  I understand that are large number of expats living there are not the best people to hang around, they are either running from the law or have lots of skeletons in their closet.

I think having a steady income like Social Security and maybe a couple of rental properties would almost have to happen, unless you have a large cash reserves.  I am thinking it would take around $1200 to $1500 per month to live comfortable there.

I do like the fact I could get a nice rental place fully furnished in a gated community with a guard for around 12K to 18K per month, that is appealing.

You do realize their are plenty of seasonal jobs that will give you enough cash to live there during the off season ... You LL get best of both worlds.

I have a seasonal job and I get my pension at 55. We are planning to move there in 15 years and I'll keep my 4-5 month job and live on the pH the rest of the time. We'll be 45 years old.

Goals are to drive old vehicles, save money and build a 🏠 there to retire in.

Looking forward to it, we re looking at Davao Eden of garden in the mountains but I am hesitant for the safety in 15,20,30 years from now.

Is that near Eden Nature Park?

If so last trip there I was surprised how cool and low humidity it was up in the mountians, and it wasn't that long of drive to find excellent weather.

I work as a RN as a travel nurse, plan is to buy a house in the Philippines and I'll come "home" every 3 months for a month....also have another idea brewing that may allow me to work their fulltime...but in the mean time my wife must stay here until she gets her American citizenship journey completed.

Your talking seasonal work in the US right? I use to work in road construction for about 7 months a year and was "layed off" for the rest of the year. So yeah that would be good to do also.
