Everyone,

I want to start by thanking everyone on this forum. After six months of waiting, my I-129F petition was approved without a hitch. The success was due in part (a large part!) to the awesome resources of this forum and good advice from the members. Now that the petition is approved, I have a few questions.

1. If all goes well with the remaining part of the process, how soon could I expect to have my fiancee in the US? Would July be unreasonable? She will be coming from Nicaragua.

2. My fiancee will be gathering her documents such as birth certificate, police reports, certificate of being single. She asked if these documents will need to be translated into english and stamped by a notary.

3. I will begin the paperwork for the I-134 affidavit of support. Both of us cave continued to document our ongoing relationship. Is there anything else we should be doing now to prepare for the next steps?

4. My fiancee is currently living in Costa Rica, but she will need to return to Nicaragua, as that is the country she has citizenship in. We are trying to determine when she must return to Nicaragua. At this point we are guessing 6 weeks, as it will require about 35 days from the NOA2 for the consulate to receive the petition. Then it will require several more weeks for the consulate to do anything. She is required to give a one month notice to resign from her job in Costa Rica. Does 6 weeks seem like a good time for her to return to Nicaragua?

Thanks in advance!

Your best answers will come from someone familiar with the embassy in Nicaragua, but here is some information based on our experience.

1. If all goes well with the remaining part of the process, how soon could I expect to have my fiancee in the US? Would July be unreasonable? She will be coming from Nicaragua.

July would not be unreasonable.  My fiance's interview is tomorrow, 2 months and 3 days after the NOA2.

2. My fiancee will be gathering her documents such as birth certificate, police reports, certificate of being single. She asked if these documents will need to be translated into english and stamped by a notary.

The embassy in Greece would accept documents in either Greek (local language) or English.  Any other language had to be translated.  Your fiance will need a police report from Costa Rica and Nicaragua, if she has lived there for more than 6 months.

3. I will begin the paperwork for the I-134 affidavit of support. Both of us cave continued to document our ongoing relationship. Is there anything else we should be doing now to prepare for the next steps?

The items you have mentioned sound good.

4. My fiancee is currently living in Costa Rica, but she will need to return to Nicaragua, as that is the country she has citizenship in. We are trying to determine when she must return to Nicaragua. 6 weeks sounds reasonable, but again, someone familiar with Nicaragua embassy could give you a more accurate answer.

Thanks in advance!

Yay congratulations! Now that you have received the NOA2, your filed will pass through the NVC before being ultimately transferred to Nicaragua, the whole process for me took about 10 days as you can see in my signature. the NVC will assign your file a number. You need that number in order to pay the DS-160 fee and schedule the interview, which can be done after you fill out the DS160 and pay the fee.

2. You will not need to translate anything at this point since Spanish is Nicaragua's offish language. I had my husband notarize those documents (bc, police doc, singleness certificate) JUST because, though I cannot remember if it's entirely necessary. Heck for like $25, which is how much it cost him in Nicaragua, why not do it? If it was not in Spanish THEN you would have to translate that stuff. You will need to translate birth certificate, however, once you apply for the green-card after you are married and she is stateside.

3. Nope. You've been doing exactly what I did which was keep documenting ongoing relationship stuff. The consulate officer didn't bother to look but at least i was ready if he asked.

4. You will know when she needs to head back once you are have paid the fee and are able to see what dates are open and available to schedule the interview. Get her in as early as possible. I scheduled his at 9 but they didn't get to us until 1 and the lady's snack stand in the waiting area was overpriced.

She will need passport photos for the medical. Just have her get a bunch since it's cheaper to get them there anyway. Any leftover photos you can use later for the green-card process. Get another copy of her birth certificate as well.

Hope this info works. I actually emailed the embassy and they emailed me the packet 4 so maybe you will want to try that.
