Hi, so I am here. Arrived last Tuesday . I entered on the k1. And on the I-94 my entrance was registered etc. So does that mean I should go and get an SSN ?

Here is a guide to the SSN process:

Senior Master Sergeant, US Air Force- Retired (after 20+ years)- Missile Systems Maintenance & Titan 2 ICBM Launch Crew Duty (200+ Alert tours)

Registered Nurse- Retired- I practiced in the areas of Labor & Delivery, Home Health, Adolescent Psych, & Adult Psych.

IT Professional- Retired- Web Site Design, Hardware Maintenance, Compound Pharmacy Software Trainer, On-site go live support, Database Manager, App Designer.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Legal alien not allowed to work. I believe you go back again after you get married and your AOS goes through and get a new SSN card (the number will stay the same). Then you will have one that says you can work :)

Should wait at least 2 weeks after you arrived before you apply SSN. They might not enter your details in the system yet. If they don't have your details in their system, they need to submit manual verification, so it will take longer before you will receive your SSN. We go today (after 2 weeks), my details is not in the system, so they need to send a manual verification. Aside from that, it should be a legal Alien allowed to work.

The system is no longer populated by a guy on a keyboard typing from a small card you filled out on the plane. It is much more automated now and is instantly populated when they scan your passport at POE.  Assuming your passport scanned properly, there should be no reason to wait two weeks. If your passport did not scan properly, then two weeks won't cure that error and a manual verification will be needed anyway.

Not at all! My fiancee went to get his SSN the very next day after he arrived and everything worked out.

I stand corrected! Sorry about that...now I'm the one who's confused because I thought you can't work til you have the green card or an EAD! Luckily I filed in December so I have pleeenty of time to figure it out for myself.
