Thank you so much Ash for bringing clarity to this. I remember hearing your last argument as well - that they see no rush in processing those as we are granted extension letters and stamps.

However, I am worried that some employers might refuse to employ a permanent resident on the basis of them "only having a 1 year extension letter to show" as it can seem too short if the company is looking for someone long-term.

Speaking as an HR person, I can assure you that an employer isn’t going to turn you down because you have an extension of one year. Your HR person would be knowledgeable to how an extension works and if not they would be working with their company’s Immigration attorney. At the time of hire, if your green card is valid that is all they need. If your green card is already expired, you can still take your expired GC along with your extension letter and it will work for the I-9 purposes. I referenced this in an earlier post to someone else.

As with what Lin said. I would say that a company that is smaller, or like a ma and pa kind of place would be the only places where you run into these issues.

If they're worried about longevity, it can easily be explained by the fact that the extension letters only exist because you're trying to get your 10 year green card and it can be a long process, but for every year that passes that you don't get your 10 year green card, you get another extension letter.

Now I could see this hurt people who have a shaky work history of jumping jobs or only staying a year at a time, but other than that there shouldn't be any issues.

Question, does the biometric fee need to be included in the original application along with $595 for I-751? or Biometric fee needs to be submitted at a later stage?

Thanks

Both needs to be submitted together; you can write single check ($680) which will include biometric fee too.

Hello everyone,

I sent i751 through mail on April 9th( it's been received on April 11th) and I didn't hear on any way from USCIS for almost 2 months.  I called couple times and they just told me that they need up to 60days to process it and they didn't want to say anything else.  I was worried that my package was lost.  My check wasn't cashed out. So after 55 days I'm getting letter and 1 year extension of status and it says that really April 11th was date when they received package. Just wanted to share if someone is in the same situation so not to be worried like I was whole time.

Its very frustrating to sit here and watch people after me get their checks cashed. Mine reached on my April 18, and now I see people on the 26th getting cashed. Thanks for your post. Makes me feel I am not alone. What a cluster.
