Anyone here got the biometrics appt from VSC yet? My NOA DATE - May 9.

Thank you,

I'm wondering the same thing. Really need to know when it is. I'm delaying a trip to see my parents because of it.

Look like it'd be more than a month from the NOA date...I'm waiting for it too.

Yeah! thank goodness! at least now we know that CSC started working again. you'll get your NOA tomorrow for sure. It was just weird, my NOA was dated May 25. oh well. as long as we know our cases are moving.

Once we get our NOA, how long*approximately* til we get the 10 year green card?

There is no approximate answer. Most people will tell you at least a year and a half, some people have waited over two years.

MOST people are opting just to apply for naturalization at the 3 year mark because it'll be quicker than waiting for ROC.

Any idea why it takes them So long? Do they put our applications away then look at the evidence months down the line then wait some more and decide? Seriously I am wondering what the reason is behind such a huge delay for petitions they already looked at when sending our NOAs. Any ideas?

At the end of April there was a large influx of H1B visas because that was the visa deadline. Over at VSC there was an overwhelming amount of applications, so they sent some of their ROC applications to CSC to process. All NEW CSC ROC applications that they recieved were processed AFTER the ROC's sent from VSC, and the H1B visas put a heavy load on CSC.

With that said, yes, your application basically goes into a box, and you get your NOA simply after they cash your check and they check that you have the basics needed and don't need any RFE's. They are not the adjudicators. All they simply do once they get to your package from the box, is cash a check, scan the paperwork into the computer, send out a the NOA and then it either goes to the local offices for interview or it gets waived.

Why does it take so long? Maybe the local offices are overwhelmed and they get so many of these in, could also be that there are less Adjucators for ROC, not too sure.

Right now CSC shows 18-20 months.

The last possibility is that they know we get green card extension paperwork. So to them, there's probably not a hurry as long as we have our extension letters or I-551 stamp. /shrug

Thank you so much Ash for bringing clarity to this. I remember hearing your last argument as well - that they see no rush in processing those as we are granted extension letters and stamps.

However, I am worried that some employers might refuse to employ a permanent resident on the basis of them "only having a 1 year extension letter to show" as it can seem too short if the company is looking for someone long-term.

Speaking as an HR person, I can assure you that an employer isn’t going to turn you down because you have an extension of one year. Your HR person would be knowledgeable to how an extension works and if not they would be working with their company’s Immigration attorney. At the time of hire, if your green card is valid that is all they need. If your green card is already expired, you can still take your expired GC along with your extension letter and it will work for the I-9 purposes. I referenced this in an earlier post to someone else.

I would also be concerned.

If it were me, I would seriously consider going ahead and filing your I-751 as soon as you can.  Make sure when you move or a few days before that you file a COA with the Postal Service.  They do a good job of redirecting mail to new addresses.

You can file a Change of Address with the USCIS online here:

egov.uscis.gov/coa/displayCOAForm.do

Read all their preamble stuff on the first page, if you feel the need, then click on CONTINUE at the bottom of this page and it looks like they will walk you through filing a change of address.

The first question they ask is if the COA is for a petition currently in PROGRESS.  So it would seem they deal with this situation all the time.

Hi,

On different note, my 90 day window has just started. Let's suppose if I wait to file and I get my new address within two weeks from now and then I file with new address. In this case I won't have to worry about NOA1 not reaching me. The only new thing I will have to add to my marriage evidence will be new lease agreement I guess. Do you think from the perspective of time loss of two weeks and having all marriage evidence of old address and just new lease agreement can have negative consequences on I-751 processing/outcome?

Thanks.
