Yes all these days was waiting for check to be cashed and i guess now we will be waiting for the mail man everyday hoping he brings good news :). Good luck

• CSC informed them that they have put a new IT system a place and they are testing it out and will start entering the applications in.

• If you filed in time - You are not out of status
• Lastly - in the same meeting - they discussed about the possibility of getting a stamp using InfoPass and his advice was that the Local Centers will NOT give you a stamp w/o anything in the system. 

Anyway, good guy...but USCIS says a lot of contradictory stuff. I was asked to call back in 2 weeks.

 

If this is true, i will get my receipt very soon. It's been more than a 6 weeks since i filed. 

I have a good feeling. Thanks for sharing this. I need this kind of info more.

A RAY OF HOPE for all of us whose GC has expired. I just got back from the California Field Office and I'm happy to report that I got an I-551 stamp in my passport for 3 months (starting today). And NO, they didn't have my application  in the system and my check hasn't been cashed yet.

 

Most of you following this thread probably have heard my story multiple times. But for those that don't know, I will explain my situation and then explain how I resolved it.

 

- Application filed (arrived) at CSC on Apr 10th.

- Quit my old job on April 20.

- GC expired on April 26.

- Initial plan was to start my new job on May 7th. I was so sure that I would have my NOA by then. How silly of me!

- New employer needs unexpired work authorization document as part of I-9 verification. I kept pushing my start date (3 times) every week by one week.

- Needless to say, my check hasn't been cashed yet. And my future employer was clearly beginning to get antsy. 

 

So what did I do?

- Requested an appointment (online) with the SF field office. I had to wait for an officer to call me (this is how it works at California field offices). I told them my sad story and convinced him to grant me an appointment. I also convinced him to key in a dummy receipt # in his system in order for him to set up an appointment. This is the only way he can schedule one.

- Went to the field office this morning with the following documents:

    - Appointment receipt

    - Printed form showing FedEx receipt and signature (at CSC)

    - Expired green card

    - Copy of the I-751 documents filed

    - Copy of check that was mailed with the documents

    - Offer letter from future employer. It's a good offer. So I made sure to highlight it and show why I can't afford to lose it.

    - Another letter I got the legal/HR team from my future employer to write which highlights the urgency of my immediate work commencment.

    - Proof of students loans and other documents to show why this job is vital to my financial health.

- Told the agent my sad situation (all true, BTW) and pleaded her to make an exception and give me a stamp in the passport.

 

The agent was empathetic and compassionate. She discussed my case at length with her supervisor and kindly offered a 3 month stamp. I was ecstatic to hear that. I really lucked out with this wonderful woman who took the time to understand my situation and verify that everything I claimed is true and then make the right decision (to make an exception and grant me the stamp since this is a delay on the CSC end that we shouldn't have to suffer for).

 

Spoke to my future employer - all set. I start on Monday. I was a nervous wreck this past couple of weeks. I can finally breathe a sign of relief! Hope my experience helps others. Good luck, guys!

I assume my employer will insist on the stamp in my passport (in the absence of a non-expired green card). So the plan is to go get the full year extension on my passport as soon as I get the NOA.

I would not recommend re-filing. The only reason to re-file would be if they lost your package, and that is clearly not the case. There is clearly a backlog and it is unfathomable that they would just misplace packages on whim. I am sure your application is there, waiting to be looked at by someone. I think sending in another application would be counter-productive. Let's hope the CSC gets their act together soon. I think the only recourse right now is to call them and make sure they know that this is causing real angst for people and also perhaps schedule an infopass appointment. The more people complain, the more likely it is that someone responsible takes notice and tries to move things along. Just my two cents. Good luck!

 

Hopefully this helps other people in my situation.

 

Just spoke to a tier 2 USCIS officer who also advised that the window for NOA has now been changed to 60 days at CSC. He also mentioned that rejections are logged immediately and there was no rejection logged for my A#. So, there is *some* pre-processing occurring-- just nothing added to the system yet. He also mentioned that in the odd chance that the application was rejected after my GC expired the reject notice would have a form and how to remedy the application and the initial application date would be the one they use so you're not instantly out of status. So to anyone who wanted to file a stand-by app-- this information should obviate that need.

 

Hopefully we start getting those notices soon.
