You should google USCIS From I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.  This is the form that your HR must complete and you will sign on the first page.  Look at the top of the form and see the Anti-Discrimination Notice.  This states that Employers cannot specify that you show your Green Card.  There are alternative documents that you can show to establish identity and employment authorization.  It also says, "...The refusal to hire or continue to employ an individual because the documentation presented has a future expiration date may also constitute illegal discrimination."  Then look at  page 3, List A Documents that establish both identity and employment authorization.  You only have to show one document from List A.  You can show your foreign passport that contains the I-551 stamp instead of your Green Card.  Also, see Lists B & C for alternative documents to show.

Hi

Thank you . But I sent an email to  HR and she said as long as your GC is not expired on the day you join ,it is completely fine. She will keep that on record and whenever i get my extension letter i can give her the copy of it. So now I am relaxed and excited for Monday. I hope i get extension letter by next week.

I'm still awaiting my check being cashed and the NOA....my nerves are shot waiting!

Very reassuring to see that most people that filed on or around April 10 to the CSC hasn't had their check cashed or NOA! Hopefully just a backup on their end.

I've yet to receive anything. Should I expect an email, or just something in the mail. Realise it's only 9 days but I kinda expected it by now given what I've been reading about times to NOA...like others, the stress begins again and I would just like to get some acknowledgement from USCIS.

No email, no case number, and that's what is so frustrating about it. Your first acknowledgement would be the NOA. From then on, things will be easy to track. I also started panicking because it seems like most people receive their NOA pretty quickly. If you look at the google doc, most people with an April 10 filing date (or less) hasn't had their check cashed or NOA.  California seems particularly backed up.

I know friends of ours took 17 months to get the approval from the CA office!  It just makes your mind go crazy wondering if I screwed something up - just don't want to get the package back, you know?  It is wonderful to know there are others in the same boat and being able to track where everybody is at!

Going into this process, I had no idea there would be this many hoops. To be honest until almost before I got the GC, I didn't know about the process for ROC!

I find it absolutely crazy how much stuff is required, just the whole process is...not something I ever want to go through again, and this is before even considering the N400!!

I agree wholeheartedly!  Unfortunately, it is the folks who take advantage of the system that ruin it for the rest of us.  This is definitely an exhausting (both emotionally and financially!) process.  I do respect that process, but you would think, though, that there would be something to make this process a bit more efficient instead of having to wait 12-18 months to get approved!

12-18 months. Try 17.5 - 19 months. That's the average processing time for the CSC currently. Last updated April 15.

My jaw actually dropped when I saw this. I had presumed (given that I've been living here two years already) that it would be fairly straightforward and take a few months max.

I have Global Entry, which is now completely pointless, given that any travel will be with an "expired" GC and an extension letter. So frustrating.

Ok - so I should have added a month to my guesstimation - was simply throwing it out there for people that I personally know of.

It's a good guesstimation! I think the processing time is just getting longer overtime as the applications start backing up. Like Jeff said, I assume it would be fairly straightforward at this point. I get if the screening process for I-485 is longer, but I don't get why the I-751 would take so long.

I'm pretty anxious over here, too.  My husband's GC expires this coming Monday, April 23rd.

Package arrived to VSC on April 13th.  I really, really hope we are going to be okay!

My husband's expired on the 14th - as long as they received it prior and you're not traveling abroad, it should be ok!  Fingers crossed for everybody - look forward to following the spreadsheet and hopefully we will see everybody get their stuff back SOON :)

We got something in the mail today via certified mail but missed the delivery.

This isn’t the method USCIS uses to send information, is it?!

It’s a letter. Won’t be available for pickup until tomorrow.

I don't believe they use certified mail...
