This might be a silly question but once my husband and I got married we got a social security card for him. Do we get a different one when we get the green card?

No, we are in the same situation, as my husband went for his SS card after he arrived. He just got his EAD and is already working. It still says Only valid with DHS authorization (or whatever it says) but he had no issue starting his job. He will be fine :)

I work in HR and I’m pretty sure your husband can start without his Social Security card. All he need to bring is his EAD and passport for the i-9 verification. Social Security card is listed on List C of acceptable documents BUT it doesn’t have to have any notes. In your husband’s case, his SS probably has a note saying “Valid for work only with DHS authorization”

The ssn is just for background checks so they can be sure he isn't a felon or anything.

SSN is not technically needed to run a criminal background check, but it can lead to a more thorough screening as there could be no confusion. Name and date of birth is the most important thing when running background checks.

When I first got my job here in the US, I did a background check and I didn’t have SSN (F1 students can only apply for SSN once offered a job) and I didn’t have any problem.

As long as her husband can provide eligibility to work on his start date, everything’s good. He could just give his social security number to HR as soon as he gets it.

i didnt sign up for informed mail on usps. if i was notified tuesday, maybe it will be in the mail today or tomorrow. usually takes 3-5days for mail to arrive here from what i observed.

There is 3 steps towards getting it... so 1 is we order your new card .. 2 we mail your card .. and 3 the post office picked up your card and that's when it's a 2 day wait to get card in hand .... what stage are you
