I’m confused now. My husband got his SSN with the DHS authorization, and then I got a notification saying that the employment auth. Card was mailed to me 6 days ago. Are they talking about his SSN? How can they send that and not the EAD card? He went on a job interview thinking all he needed was the SSN and they are requiring him to have an EAD card too along with the SS card? I’m so confused right now 😩

Your EAD IS your authorization to work from DHS. So you will need that.

Yes but we also applied for AP too so I’m seeing it’s supposed to be a combo card, but I don’t see anything about advanced parole on it...no stamps or anything just the SS card with the authorized to work with DHS

SSN CARD is card with 9 digit number with dhs authorization. This comes from social security admistration. This must have come to due to ur ead approval. You must have ead ap approval notice received by now. You will also receive another card from uscis which is picture card. This will be both ur ead and ap Card. To work due e-verify requirements you will need both cards to start work. Ead Card will be used for authorization to work and ssn for ur payroll and other benefits.

Right now, you do not have the EAD. You have the social security card. They are different. The SS card comes separately from the Social Security Administration when your EAD is approved. The EAD card is mailed to you by USCIS.

Basically, all you have is a social security number. That card will tell employers that they also need to see your EAD by virtue of the "Only valid for work with DHS authorization" warning printed across it.

When the EAD comes, it will also act as your AP. It should come soon; you'll just have to wait for it before scheduling any interviews.

After finally getting my hands on my EAD yesterday, I've just had an interview scheduled for my AOS! Office is Albany, NY, and I'm adjusting from K1. NOA1 is April 20th.

Can anybody with experience tell me how long it usually takes to receive an interview notice?

Some advice to those that are still waiting for their EAD to be produced.

If you haven't already, make your resume right away. Also prepare a Cover Letter template that you can later edit with information to whichever place you're applying to, many companies ask for it on their website.

Ask previous managers for reference, it's good to have it in hand.

Here's some platforms that help with jobs searches, setup your account and get everything ready. If anyone else knows other platforms please share them.

indeed.com ; ziprecruiter.com ; hire.com

Have your linkedin account setup with proper information. Many companies use a hiring platform that allows you to easily connect with linkedin, making the whole application process take less time.

Try to make yourself a check list for all the things that you need and do it before the EAD, once that comes you'll feel pressured into doing all things at once.
