Hi! I'm just curious - I'm from Pennsylvania too, and I paid $35.50 in Allentown PennDOT office. There was no discount for me as an immigrant. What was your discount for? Did they tell you about the discount in the office? Because I haven't seen any info on this on their website. Thank you!

p.s. Funny, they hadn't let me take my test before they cleared me with DHS.<_< Was the road test hard for you?

if only all these cumbersome and complicated procedures were standard across offices and employees! heh

I remember the lady that did our form said something about the expiration date for the permit was different than everyone else's so they had to charge this other price that wasn't listed anywhere, thus they couldn't accept the check we had brought for ~$36. they made us go out and get a money order with the 'special price'. (funny: we told the cashier at the money order place what it was for and why this price and she was like "whaaaaat that can't be right! here's how you claim your money back after they finally tell you they made a mistake: ...")

also, IIRC this happened after we got the DHS approval, she said that some info that the previous employee filled (from before DHS, a couple weeks back) was wrong (probably allowing me to take the knowledge test was also a mistake?) and that they were also wrong to not have requested my I-94... we never brought it and after a bit of fiddling with the computer (what did she do? win a minesweeper match?) she said "it's OK, we can proceed without it now" so who knows what goes on behind the scenes. everything seems tied to their moods and maybe the weather.

Hello everyone, I got an update today saying:

We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time

We will notify you when your case status changes.

I didn't know they would update me only to tell me there are no updates!! I little frustrating at this point.

Did anyone else got this message?

Good luck for all of us in this (very stressing) journey!

I got this twice .. means nothing apparently..

sorry, forgot to answer: basically kinda hard, but more than half of it was just nerves (they're very unforgiving of any little mistake). took me 4 tries!

here's the full story in case you're interested haha:

sure my fellow PA immigrant (LOL), I'll share my experience! :P (and that's great that you can check it less that daily, I maybe should just try doing that... don't know if I'll be able to!)

I think I shared about the knowledge (multiple choice) test at the DMV above in this thread, so about the road test: I found this couple links with info about my specific DMV, Penn Hills:

which means, if you google for the name of the couple centers closest to you you might find people telling about their experience there and even the exact route they take you during the exam!

anyway, the test itself is not hard, but they're strict with a few things. in my DMV, they took me for a tiny trip down the road the DMV is in (35 mph) and then a very short "loop" through a side road (residential - 25 mph), exit that and back to the DMV through the same road.

  • I failed my 1st test (jun 14) bc I did a wide turn (instead of sharp) left when exiting a main road to a side one. there were no cars around and it was absolutely safe to do so, but they want you to stick to every little rule regardless of context so that's something to watch out for!
  • I failed the 2nd because I skipped a stop sign (it was very easy to see but didn't even realize it was there!). the thing is that I had practiced the course a thousand times and this time they just made me enter the side road from last time's exit and leave from last time's entry point. I got super nervous that I hadn't practiced it that way and completely ignored the stop sign.
  • the 3rd time I was already quite nervous from the previous two times so I made no fatal mistakes but was very hesitant all the time, making lots of jerky movements (accelerating and stopping very abruptly) so I lost a lot of points. also I think I hit 40 mph for 2 seconds when the limit was 35
  • the 4th time was yesterday and I did everything perfectly! yay me :) I was also super nervous but after a good parallel parking the guy told me "you have 0 points so far so you're doing great, this is where you want to be to pass the test" and I calmed down a lot.

additional notes I wrote down after each try:

  • no wide turns ever
  • parallel parking:
    • turn signals on again if they turn themselves off after turning the wheel (right from beggining to end of parking maneuvers, left when exiting the spot)
    • look behind shoulder when going back ALWAYS
    • look behind shoulder again when leaving spot
  • remember how to defrost windows (asked at beginning)
  • announce: "I'm going to move up a little" when needed so they don't get scared
  • memorize where the car is parked! LOL
  • ALWAYS wait until there are no cars or it's super obvious other cars are yielding to you. there is no rush.
  • accelerate/deccelerate as smoothly as possible
  • always keep the speed within 4 mph above and 4 mph below the speed limit (except when it's very obvious that you have to slow down because it's very curvy or full of potholes, they will probably forgive you for going even slower in that case. so if the limit is 35 never exceed 39 and never go below 31)

hope that helps. I'm just happy I don't need to take my passport everywhere now and can leave it safely at home. also being able to drive on my own is nice haha. good luck!

I didn't make any request at all! That's why I thought this update was so weird and made no sense to me! lol

Thank you tho... being patient is the only thing we can control in this process, right? :)

it is just an automatically generated message from USCIS website. You can disable "Case inactivity notification" in your USCIS account settings. So no worries :-)

Hi! I'm from Pennsylvania. Went to Philadelphia for my Biometrics.

Hi, I'm from PA, too.
So when you went to DMV you were asked to show I-94? Mine is expired so I am not sure if it is going to be a problem or not.

Hey guys,

I sent my i765 & i485 forms together to USCIS on April 17 2018.

On my i765 form, i put the code A6 on it instead of C9. Big mistake, I realise.

However, when I received my NOA for my I-765, it clearly states that my eligibility category is C09. No mention of A6. Do you think the USCIS corrected this on my behalf? Do you think I need to follow them up to correct the original mistake in the form, or would that be doing more harm then good.

Any similar experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!!

I live in California. I tried to get state ID but the staff at DMV told me that she needs something to prove that I am legal permanent resident. I showed her the marriage certificate, NOA1 from AOS but she refused those document. She asked me to comeback again later when I get EAD or greencard.

Same here in Houston Texas. She didn't know so she asked a supervisor and they looked something up on the computer and told me they need a GC before they would let my husband take the test :(

Is it just me or does it seem like the February/March filers were getting green card interviews faster than the April filers? Some of them already have their green cards, but a lot of us here are "ready to be scheduled" and have been sitting there since May.

I get depressed every time I check my status as we did the biometrics the first week of May

Does anyone here experienced case status from " Ready to be scheduled for an interview on may 31st" to "We reviewed your biometrics and are still processing your case"

I thought next update will be the schedule of the interview. Now I am confuse if that is a bad news or what :(

I think that's normal. Mine also changed from "Ready to be schedule for an interview" as of May 21nd,  and then on Mid June status changed into "We reviewed your biometrics and still processing your case". Now early July the status has changed into "Biometrics completed".

Hi Peter, I think USCIS has corrected your category as their received and make first review for our case before they send you NOA1 I-765. It's why on your NOA1 it's written eligibility Category C09

Is it possible to do so? Im at the 91 day mark, so Im still within "normal processing times". I dont have a job offer to prove "financial" loss (nor am I in the red)... do they normally ask for proof?

What other reason for expediting can I give?

Hey guys, I’ve got a question.

Would’nt  it jeopardize the AOS and the fact that the sponser (spouse for K1 visa) needs to be able to provide financially if a new expedite is asked for by the immigrant fir financial loss?

im really confused about this.

my husband wants to work (he’s from the UK) but after filing at the end of March, it still says fingerprint fee received even though he’s already been to his biometrics appt.

Anyone, feel free to jump in on this topic!🙂

I noticed something interesting today. I got the email from USCIS that there are no updates to my case, as usual, this is like the 7th or 8th, however the email says they last took action on the case on june 27th. When I check my cases the last actual action taken was on may 29th with ready to schedule the interview for form i-485. Form i-131 has april 23rd and i-765 fingerprints review completed on may 25th.

Am I missing something here?

From what I hear from other posters, the "financial loss" expedite criteria may include the loss of a job offer ... but dont quote me on that. The financial status of my petitioner (husband) will not be affected, since he is over the income requirement.
