Guys,
I am about to start filing for AOS and wanted to ask:

My fiance and I are getting married in a church. Do people know/have experience with using their church marriage certificate to file?
Or does USCIS only take something from the courts?

Thanks!

It would be best to provide the county issued marriage certificate as it's a municipal certification.

hey guys, my NOA1 date was the 20th (got the letters in the mail on the 27th) and I still haven't received the biometrics appointment letter. we're going away for a family event next Wednesday, for a whole week (and there will be nobody home to check the mail). how likely do you think it is I get that letter AND the appointment date itself during that week away and what would happen if I miss it? what can I do?

I had my biometrics today, and I learned something...

I had my passport for ID (of course, it has my maiden name), and all my paperwork includes my married name now so if you are also applying with your married name and have no other identification with your married name, take you marriage certificate to verify that you have some registered information.

USCIS said they registered both last names but my paperwork will be registered with my maiden name.

I was hoping to avoid that.

Hey there. It took around 2 weeks for me to recieve biometrics letter in the mail after noa1 hard copies arrived. They usually gave you about a week or more notice to when you're appointment it. I had 11 days notice from receiving my biometrics appointment to going for it nect week. :)

The biometrics person said something similar when my wife went yesterday as well even though she took the marriage cert and certified marriage application, said we'll have to clarify with IO once we have our interview. We went by the DMV to get her state-id updated to her married name so hopefully we can show the IO at the interview and it'll be processed on her married name.

Hi, need help!!

I’m looking up about AoS, just noticed we forgot to add my maiden name as my middle name on marriage license, so my name is just my husband last name and my first name on our marriage certificate.

I haven’t applied for SSN yet.

I wonder if I can put my maiden name as my middle when I apply for SSN and AoS....

thank you in advance,

Minori

Does anyone know when you're eligible to get a State ID and driving licence? I can't drive yet and want to take the test and stuff here. Do you have to wait until work authorisation or can you do it earlier?

You have to wait until you get your SSN

it's probably not exactly the same for every state, but here in PA, I went yesterday and did the knowledge test, they asked for my passport, SSN card, the NOA1 AOS letter and two proofs of address, so I guess as soon as you have those things.

I gave them the paper that came with the SSN which has my address and name, and a letter from a bank saying thanks for opening a (joint) account. you can just take one proof though, if your spouse comes with their own proof of address (ie their driver's license) confirming that you do live together.

they did say I would have to come back later though, because they needed to check with DHS that my papers were in fact legit. I wasn't in the database they had immediate access to so they're gonna take a little while to enquire (I'm guessing that's pretty normal for K1 AOSers). they'll tell me in the mail when they're done with that and I can go back, pay, and get my learner's permit then.

the test itself is 80% mindblowingly obvious questions, 5% trick questions, and 15% things you really wouldn't care about (like penalties for minors) but have to memorize anyway in case they ask. all in all very easy.

hope that helps, good luck with that!
