On Wednesday, there were 4 Aug 9th approvals on Case Tracker.

At least there’s movement (my own’s a mid-September PD, and seeing things being worked on/status changes happening gives me a tiny bit of hope ha).

hi @JulienR

Oh ok , thank you that’s good to know 😊

because , few weeks ago I saw on expat.com that right now ( at the time I read it ) people that the embassy had contact in June had to wait to 18 September for their interview . But maybe it’s because there is the summer holidays in the middle ? We know that our administration is a little bit more slow at that time of the year . Thank you

how long did it take for you for them to contact you to schedule your appointment?

I can speak only for one case, she got her letter from the embassy last week and the appointement was scheduled for August 7th.

In my case, since I was applying for a non-immigrant work visa, I could go directly on the website and book my appointment on my prefered date. For CR1 and K1 visa it's different, they give you an appointment and you have to call and change it if it doesn't suit you.

Hello,

I just got my letter for the RFE and they are asking for an "certification that the translation is complete and accurate" of our mariage certificate (we got married in France). I translated the documents myself but did not sign at the bottom of the page or submit a signed letter saying I was capable of translation. Do I need to get a certified translator to certify it? Or can I just write a certification myself saying I am capable of translating? Different websites seem to say different things. Thanks!

Hi ,

i am from France too .

If i am right you have to have your paperwork’s as the wedding certificate , birth certificate etc

it needs to be certified by an official company who is allowed to do it and you need the apostille at the bottom of the pages .

There is an extra cost and it’s a little bit expensive but no choice..

We did I with alphatrad . They take about 10 days to do it .

For I-130 they only ask for the birth certificate of the petitioner, the birth certifcate of the applicant is needed for the NVC stage (and interview).

As for translation, the I-130 instructions clearly states:

"Translations. If you submit a document with information in a foreign language, you must also submit a full English
translation. The translator must sign a certification that the English language translation is complete and accurate, and that
he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English. The certification should also include the date,
the translator’s signature and printed name, and may contain the translator’s contact information."

So, technically, I guess you can translate yourself, and I have read somewhere else on this forum that it has worked for one person at least. However, it seems to me wiser to have it translated by a "traducteur assermenté" as it looks more official with a stamp and it's not you. Anyway, you said you did not sign or certify that you were competent to translate from French to English so it wouldn't have worked. An official translation costs 40 or 50 euros and you can keep the original, you will probably need to show your mariage (and birth certificate) again once in the US. I don't think you need an apostille though. The I-130 instructions do not specify that you need a certified copy:

"Copies. You may submit legible photocopies of documents requested, unless the Instructions specifically state that you
must submit an original document. USCIS may request an original document at the time of filing or at any time during
processing of an application, petition, or request. If you submit original documents when not required, the documents
may remain a part of the record, and USCIS will not automatically return them to you."

Also note that you do not need to translate documents that are in the language of the country where you are having the interview. That means you do not need to translate a french birth certificate or a french police record for your interview in Paris (and you don't have to upload translations at the NVC stage). "All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that:

The translation is accurate, and
The translator is competent to translate."

I know how you feel, I am a late august filer, so I know it's not my week, but seeing these cases approved gives me hope that my week is closer. I use case tracker as well, but I still see a lot o july filers with just "case received"

We're July 19th, 2018 filers and have been approved for an entire month. Yet it still says "case received".

Same here. I guess we have to play the wait game now.. eh. Until nvc gets our stuff.

Do you think it'll change when goes to nvc? Or we'll still see that same old "case received".

There have been a couple more Aug 9th approvals today as well (seen 4 of them so far, will edit my post and add to it should I see any more before locked out lol).

Edit to add: an Aug 10th case has also been approved today, and there have been a couple Aug 9th and Aug 10th RFEs sent out the past couple days.

Edit to add²: Saw a second Aug 10th case approval dated today.
