Hello,

My fiance lives in Brazil though she used to live in Germany and is technically still a resident. We need to obtain police certificates now, one from Germany. Ive read the instructions, but I am wondering if a relative in Germany could just go and get it for her? Or will she need to go through the embassy? Seems like going through embassy would take longer and is unnecessary since, as I said, shes still registered in Germany. Any thoughts? thanks

Did you review the website?

"The person filing the application must prove their identity and, if they are acting as a statutory representative, their power of representation. "

So it would appear that statutory representative is allowed. Three to four weeks processing as the PC is mailed direcctly

YMMV

I was living as well in Germany before I came to the US. I had to ask for a new certificate while going through K1 visa. What I did was going to the German Embassy and ask them for the certificate. I paid a fee and wrote some info down on a paper (plus show my ID) and weeks later they sent me the certificate home!

She can just print the application from this website:  https://www.bundesjustizamt.de/EN/Topics/citizen_services/BZR/Resident_abroad/Resident_abroad_node.html

Fill it up, get it notarized, pay the fee of 13€, send the receipt and the application to the address given in the instructions and 2-4 weeks later she'll have the paper. They'll send it to the address you'll provide them. Usual processing time is 1-3 weeks plus the mail delivery times. I got mine in less than 2 weeks from the day I mailed it out.

The Bundesamt für Justiz only sends certificates in German.  You need to take care of the translation yourself.  However, the consulates in Germany accept documents in German.

Yes, I had to. I knew an official translator that did my Spanish to German translations through the years and she translated mine from German to Spanish. In case you wonder why it was translated to Spanish and not to English is because the American embassy in Madrid accepts English and Spanish translations.

It depends on who makes it! I paid 80 euro for my translation. It came with copies of it and a pdf form!
