Hi everyone, i am u.s. petitioner, with canadian benificiary. Montreal consulate. Just submitted ds160 yesterday, checked ceac website and status says ready to schedule interview.... I am confused because ceac says to schedule interview, and nvc says they schedule interview.  Beneficiary still needs medical exam done as well. Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen any interview dates open up, and be warned, if you book an appointment before you receive your Packet 4, they may cancel it.

I have done some reading since i posted this. I guess since our case on the ceac website says ready i can send in the packet 3 documents. Has anyone done this?

Lots of people have on this website.

K1 book their own interview FYI.   You send packet 3, and when you get packet 4 back (everything is email) then you can book the interview.  After the interview is booked and the beneficiary has registered for courier services, they can schedule their medical.

Be aware there are often times that Montreal does not have openings for K1 to book interviews.  Just keep checking back until you can.  Montreal will automatically extend the validity of the noa2 if this happens.  But try to get an interview booked before the NOA 2 expires.  The interview does not need to happen before it expires, just BOOKED before it expires.

Thank you! I am now thinking way too much, and i think while helping my fiance with the ds160 we may have chosen the wrong option for the question "indicate the purpose of your trip to the us" because a k1 visa was not an option on the drop down menu, and there was no obvious answer, we put "alien in transit" is this incorrect? I realize if it is, my fiance will have to re-submit the ds160.

To be honest I'm not sure what the correct answer is since I did not do the DS-160.  I'm sure someone will pop in that has though!

It's a toss of a coin with Packet 3 - A number of others who have shown as "Ready" before us have yet to receive Packet 3 from Montreal yet. Some have gone and submitted it via email anyways, without any initial contact from the embassy. Of those that have done that, some have been given Packet 4 and some have been turned away and told to wait for Montreal to email them first.. Worth a shot I guess, but be prepared to have to wait for Packet 3 :(
