If my income was a little less in 2017 then the poverty guidelines for aos would that be a problem? I am self-employed so the income I show varies on my w2...

Hi,

Yes, this will be a problem. They look at the income to make sure the intending immigrant will not be a "public charge." If your income does not meet the Federal guidelines, they will deny the visa. Start looking for a co sponsor now and take an updated I864 to the interview, as well as the co sponsor's tax transcripts, W2's etc.

Not accurate. They are looking at current income. Although I can't say what a self-employed person can show to prove current income.

Exactly, so the only proof of income that they really have is from last year, and that is what they will go by. I suggest getting a joint sponsor, since income above the federal guidelines cannot be proven at this point. 2018 is still fairly new and there are no final transcripts, W2's etc to prove income for the rest of this year will be sufficient. IMO, its best that the OP have a joint sponsor on standby.

Yes, you are right on that part. The other way is to use assets, since it’s mentioned that it’s just a little less.

So I can show k1 as proof as other income?

See if this thread is useful for you:

Otherwise, if you have cash that is 3X the amount that you are short of, that can be used too. You can just use the search function on this forum to see what your options are :)
