Hi

I'll be applying for reissue of passport with surname changed and adding spouse name to it. However in my ds application I didn't mention of any other name. Should I keep my current name and surname on passport or can I change it to new one? I just don't want to delay my process or want any issues during interview.

Did anyone have similar situation.

I came across this 2 annoying questions while exploring other vj forum but can't seem to wrap my head around it. Can anyone kindly respond to these questions or make a comment about it. Thanks.

1. As a couple, why did you decide to move to the US rather than your own country?

2. When do you plan on leaving the US after entry?

When you did your I130 form, biometric form,i864 form and DS 260 form what surname did you use before in all this forms ?

Did you use same surname what you have in passport?

Or in form you did change your surname ?

Before if you use same surname on all the forms what you have in passport so you don't need to change.

and yeah that's good idea to ad your spouse name in your passport :)

all the time I've sent docs or forms they are under my name and surname. Now I've only few months remaining on passport I'm planning to apply for reissue of passport. So was wondering should I still use old name and surname or can change it to my spouse's surname and add his name. My lawyer said it should be fine but still just wanted to get extra opinion cause I don't want to wait even an extra day more after interview. Cause I've doubt they might put under administrative processing and add extra weeks ...

Yes better to change the surname and add your spouse name to it. As long as you have it change in the Indian passport before your interview. Do you have police clearance certificate done ?

Sorry. Not much here. Just that it's always better to be honest. My answers to these questions would be:

1. Because we've lived together in my husband's country and I want him to know where I'm from and get to know my family. and/or that we can work better together to acheive our goals as a couple (in building a family and financially supporting them)

2. We currently don't have plans to leave the US at least for a few years, but we do plan to live between the two countries. We will also be taking trips to visit family in his country frequently.

Not sure if that helps, but like Dee elle says above, just be honest and truthful.

Congratulations to everyone getting approved!! We are all so close!!!! What does the CEAC status mean when it says, "Ready"?  Is it already at the embassy?
