SSN and EAD

Hi

 

So i finally received my EAD after months of waiting. I have been in the US for almost 5 years and already have a SSN from previous visas. I applied for AOS after getting married in 2016.

 

I need to use my SSN for an application, my question is now that I have my EAD is my SSN valid? or was it never invalid? Or do I need to visit the Social Security Office to change my name before i can use it? I plan on going to change my name on Monday but need to use SSN for application before then. Im worried my application will be denied because of SSN.

SSNs are issued for life; your number is valid.

So if my maiden name is on my SSC and my new name is on my EAD it shouldnt effect anything?

It is advised to update your SS record with your new name, so you might wanna go to the SS office and update your name. You will then get the new card with the same SSN.

If i update my name at the SS office do i need to wait until the actual card arrives, or can i use it while waiting for it?

You might run into I-9 issues with mismatching names if it was your intention to use it for that purpose. Otherwise there should be no issue using it now or whenever, but updating your maiden name to your married name with the SSA is advisable.
