I understand Barong probably makes the most sense, but I'm not having a lot of luck swaying her on it. She thinks it's too old fashioned, and I'll admit too that I look better in dark colors. I'm still going to need to find suits, and I don't know where I can find them yet. My main fear is knock-offs. We've seen Armani suits for sale for only a couple hundred dollars in the Philippines, but that can't be legitimate. I would be embarrassed to have my friends dress up in fakes.

If they look the same and the quality is good then what is the issue there?

This recipe of dark western suits, 90 degree weather, and 100% humidity will lead to nothing but medical emergencies.

The good news is that nurses are plentiful.  Every family has a cousin or three who are.

Good Luck, and Happy Hydration.

Finally done.

All the more reasons to tell your wife that Barongs are the way to go, you can't be seen in a knock off suit...haha. Really it's going to be super warm to be wearing a suit, that's just crazy!

Suits will be hot. Barongs are old fashion. So what is a Dude to do?  You're going to be hot in anything you wear.

If you want to do the suits then I would recommend either the Men's Wearhouse (slimmer trimer youthful suits) or Jos. A. Banks (I recommend them because there probably is a store near you and they have sales going on all the time which you can save some bucks). They both have sales going on and if you get the jacket size from the guys in the PI then buy the suits and have them shipped or you carry them with you. Tailor them there.

You have to think outside the box on this one. Good luck.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the barong either.

If you're not stone set on suits, I would go for something like this:  (serious this time, it's not a tshirt tux ;) )

Casual, comfortable, not expensive, probably unique for Philippines, looks good.

Old fashioned? Well by that standard aren't suits old fashioned in America? I would call both traditional. I wore a barong, the only problem was having to get it custom made but that still only took 3 days. I am a little larger than your average Filipino lol.

Seriously I wore a Barong in my friend's wedding and then I used that same Barong for my own JOP wedding in the USA as a way to help celebrate my wife's culture. I am not fat but I do have big shoulders and a big chest due to working out so I have to have a bigger barong as well.

And for some reason larger sizes mean much LONGER in the Philippines ..
