My N400 Interview experience at Pittsburgh, PA.

Interview was scheduled at 11:15 AM. Arrived there at about 10:40.
The wait was quite long - about an hour. I brought along with me the original documents that were
stated in the letter and original copies of all documents that I submitted.

Before she began the interview, she placed me under oath. She then told me that she was very
happy that I didn't need a name change cos I already had it done. Then she asked me to hand her my passport and greencard.
Next was the reading test,

then the writing test, and finally the civic test.  Passed all that.  She then reviewed my N400 application.  She informed me that
she is going to change my eligibility from '3 years and married to US citizen to ' have been living in the US for 5 years' as I have been in the country for more than 5.

She said it will make the process easier.   She also changed my employment from 'unemployed' to 'full-time homemaker' cos she thinks it's a full-time job.  She asked about

my son and my husband then went over the 50 YES/NO questions on the form.  She then made me sign that I agree with the changes that she made and told me that I passed.
I then asked her if I could have my oath ceremony scheduled for August as my husband could no longer take off work.  She posted a note on my application and even wrote where to schedule my ceremony to make the 2-hour travel easier.  She was very accommodating and nice.  My interview took about 15 minutes.

I applied online and I would advise others to do the same. It guides you on what documents to submit as evidence.   She didn't ask me to bring out any documents that I

brought with me (except for the passport and permanent resident card), but I would advise bringing all original copies of the documents that you submitted and even those that you didn't submit that you think would help with your application -- just in case.  Never hurts to be prepared.  Hope this helps.
Good luck everyone!

And oh, I wore a business casual attire on the interview. Some of the applicants wore shorts and jeans, but I think it's better to look presentable.  No need to wear a blazer.

Congrats. I have my interview on the last week of next month.

Hi Florist. I know how it feels. I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Just take as much paperwork as you can for your interview. It's better to be ready. I had a big folder with all kinds of paperwork. My officer didn't ask for any of that but he knew that i had it all. Just relax and be confident. Between me and my husband I'm the one who stresses out the most but this time i just decided to let it go. There is not much you can do. If you submitted enough paperwork at the beginning the reason of the interview can be just to verify if you guys are still together. At the end of the day thats probably a reason why we had interview. A folder that he had about my case was huge with all those original and RFE docs. He said it was a good thing. Just make sure all your stuff is organized because if an officer asks you for a document and it takes you forever to find it you will start stressing out for no reason. Good luck!

Thank you Dalida. The interview notice specifically say to not bring the documents that we have already submitted so I am planning to take the documents like bank statements, lease, car insurance, and etc. that have been renewed/updated after the I751submission. We never had a RFE or anything so I am just guessing that this is a random selection. I talked to the lawyer that had reviewed our documents before submission and he has shocked that we were invited for the I751 interview....

Hi Florist

Which field office is your application processed by? I had an interview for I-751 last week. The interview was about 45 min and it took that long because the IO spent a lot of time telling us about citizenship, name change rules (as I applied for that with my N400) and asked about a product my husbands company works on! I was really scared at the start because I thought I had something missing and was waiting for bad news. I didn’t even answer some questions properly and forgot to take some documents. But the IO did not seem bothered by this and later apologetically informed us that all applicants are being called for interviews now (it seems its a new rule so you might be in the same situation as me). This was in San Francisco. So, probably you need not worry if all your paperwork is in order.

Thank you Ashanu, our field office is Santa Ana. Did you have the interview together or did they separate you?

We were together. I was asked questions about my tax returns and trips abroad and my husband was asked about his job and his tax returns and we were also asked questions either  of us could answer.

It's depressing, I'm looking at the timeline for the NYC filers thread, no interviews have been scheduled for people filling since Dec 17. And folks that recently got interviews are almost 1 year into their time line..

I'm feeling nervous, as my job will require me to travel out of the country for business for at least 3-4 weeks.. I'm hoping the interviews don't fall the dates I'm travelling..

Hey guys,

First of all, I know that this is not a forum for I-751 but I thought that my question could be relevant as maybe there are some people here in the same situation :)

I haven't posted in awhile because the last update that we got on our I-751 was Feb 26th, 2018 saying that "Case Was Received At My Local Office" - which happened 104 days ago. I noticed through the app that A LOT of people got transferred to another office on June 6th with the update "Case Was Transferred And A New Office Has Jurisdiction" but our case did not get transferred - actually, there are only a handful of cases from the day that I applied that did not get transferred even though when I check other dates, this pattern doesn't seem to happen. I guess I am wondering if there are more people in the same situation here.

Also, I guess I should mention that I applied for N-400 on April 20th, 2018 and got a passport stamp during the first week of May just in case I ever need that to renew my drivers license or something else.

I am wondering if people who applied for the N-400 with the I-751 pending didn't get transferred because we are waiting for a combo interview or maybe if the fact that I got a passport stamp changes anything. I had my biometrics appointment for the N-400 5 days after applying and haven't received an update yet which is to be expected since San Jose, CA is my field office and the website says that it should take about 9.5 months.

Anyone else in the same situation or with an input?

Thanks!

Hi Thilimaa,

We are in the same situation. I'm also filed N400 at my local San Jose USCIS while waiting for ROC. What's your N400 case status? Yesterday I went to infopass in San Jose and IO told me that usually it takes shorter time than what is shown in our N400 online processing time 12 months.

We too are in the same situation. We filed N400 while waiting for ROC as well. My wife has had her biometrics taken for the N400 at the St. Louis office in May. We had an info pass appointment the next week to get the stamp and were told her application was being transferred but we never received any information to that via app or online account. IO told us that it would go much faster than what it had listed as the approximate processing time and we should have the interview and hopefully approval by the end of the year. Alas we haven't heard a word since the biometrics appointment and our status hasn't changed.

Hey,

My case status hasn’t changed since our biometrics appointment back in April, it went from “we are reviewing your biometrics” and now it still says that “case is being actively reviewed”.

Online now it says 10 months or 9 months, I believe, I haven’t checked in awhile because once our status changes, we will receive an email.

My ROC status still say “case was received at your local office” since Feb 26th - haven’t received any updates since then.

Exactly the same case status as yours. However, when I asked IO to check where my I751 case, she told me that my case 751 had been consolidated wiith my N400 and they are now in NBC. I highly doubted what she said because I have never received any transfer notice saying that my case was transferred to NBC.

Me too! I have not received any transfer notice from USCIS and IO told me that my case is in NBC now....What's your N400 processing time listed in your account?
