I'd like to see a speech asking Americans to make the sacrifices necessary to make kicking out undocumented workers workable. They will need to pay more for everything from restaurant food to houses to see it made by Americans/residents who got a living wage for their work. It's the right thing to do, but Americans need to see an accurate picture of the changes needed to fill the hole the immigrants will leave. It will require sacrifice on everyone's part.

Then I'd like that speech to address how we will be reworking previous agreements with Latin America and other 3rd world areas to demolish the uneven playing fields we have created for them. And how the American people will need to sacrifice for this, too.

IMO, those changes would cause the US to ultimately collapse as a world power. Hmmmm....

what about employers who hire them>?

It is up to congress and the law makers to fix this mess up. It is not that hard to create a system / process to verify an individual's work status. Every other developed country out there seems to be doing fine with such systems..

Which leads me to believe that this is being deliberately stalled by certain people wanting businesses to benefit from illegal immigrants; at the expense of middle and lower class 'Americans'.

exactly my point. hate illegals all you may want (generic you)... there is a reason they are here and that reason is demand and allowance. they weigh on our social services plans? joe middle class has to foot the bill? hey the government could care less (and moreover they have obviously seen it as a benefit for some time). its not their money. its ours.

i dont hate the PEOPLE, and i also do not see sending 12 million + people back as a viable solution.

They are invading this country. Nothing to do with any even or uneven playing field.

Anyone supporting illegal immigrants is not only slapping the face of legal immigrants but is also saying ###### you to the middle and poor Americans who lose, at the gain of illegal immigrants..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

If we as Americans agree that ANYTHING is worth the lowest prices possible, then we will continue to use illegal immigrants to provide the lowest cost labor. It's up to the American people to demand that they pay higher prices so poor Americans can be employed gainfully at a living wage.

My concerns about this issue is that so many people in congress, be it Democrats or Republicans, are siding with the businesses and illegal immigrants.

I agree with what you are saying. The middle class is burdened with paying for them and all of the taxpayer funded roads, schools and services they are using. While the 36,000,0000 Americans living in poverty have to wait in line and have next to no chance of finding a job. What these illegal immigrants are effectively saying is, "screw your poor, we are more important!!".

PS That is right they do not know English , "enrosque su pobre, somos más importantes!!".

What Part of 'Illegal Immigration' is Confusing?

by Brian Bilbray

Posted 05/03/2007 ET

The outrage and indignation displayed by yesterday’s marchers would be justified if it were directed at the right government. The United States is not responsible for the conditions millions of would-be immigrants are fleeing from -- yet many activist groups expect us to be held accountable for a third-world environment overrun with corruption and poverty we did not create. We could grant a mass amnesty right now and it still would not change any of the social, political and economic conditions that are driving people away from their home countries.

What a chopfcuk. Yes, the US has absolutely nothing to do with 3rd world poverty. Just because we're standing on your back doesn't mean you can complain to us if you have a backache! Jeez the nerve.

eta: not calling OP a chopfcuk, but the congressman.

It's OK. I've been called worst. You can call me anything...but don't call me late for dinner. ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I would gladly pay more for things if it meant that the illegal workers were sent home. But I totaly disagree that our economy would suffer if they all left. I think it would improve our economy since we wouldn't be supporting them with free schools and medical care. I am willing to put my money where my mouth is.

As far as "leveling the playing field" goes, whenever we stick our noses into another countries' business we get jumped on by some in this country, but when we don't some of the same people jump on us for not getting involved. Not very logical.

You got that right.

On top of that think about the number of jobs that will need to be filled. Hmm.. Where are all of these workers going to come from.. Surprise Surprise, over 14,000,000 Americans are unemployed..

America should not waste their time, money and lives anymore on helping anybody else as they will only get criticized..
