It's very simple.  They will be using the information gathered to determine if an intended immigrant is a threat to this great country.  They don't have to tell you, me, or anyone else why they want the information.  If this even happens it's clear the information will be used to ensure the safety of American citizens.  GOD Bless America!  dave

P.S.  Out of curiosity what other country besides the US has these "women's marches" of which you speak?

during the Women's March pretty much every other country had it too. The whole #metoo movement is not a US only issue.

Again, main stream media (CNN, MSNBC, ect) live to strike "fear and terror" into people. Especially immigrants. Notice, ICE goes to arrest known illegal criminals and news networks only manage to complain that ICE is "terrorizing immigrant communities"... always stuff from them like that that drives the average American and LPR crazy to hear.

Umm bud.. you're so into the  anti-"main stream media" bubble, you're not realizing its actually true.

And its not a current politics.. Trump thing.. its a federal government thing. They've wanted this information from when Obama was POTUS..

some have mentioned it violates privacy

I don't think our privacy laws cover foreigners

When a person agrees to immigrate ,  they also agree to background checks

it was noted a few years ago that a man had to submit his cell phone to CO and when it was found he had several gf's in multiple countries ,  he was not only denied but told not to continue with the process

and a woman accompanying husband to interview:   man was asked what birth marks or tattoos she had /  when he told about a birth mark,  they took her into a private room and checked under her clothing

As for guns,   most of us would like to be protected from the idiots (assault rifles are not needed in only my opinion)  but i own a gun here at home to protect myself.  I bought it after my late husband died and i was here along as is my right

This is the 3rd time I'll say this: if you are posting something you could get fired for, don't post it. Someone might not want to hire you if you are openly posting pictures of the president in bad situations.

Doubt they're going to give you ####### for voicing your opinion at the Women's March, the US have freedom of speech.

If a post is visible enough for an employer, it's visible enough for everyone to see, so no need to give extra information to the embassy. Plus, not all employers care about what you do in your free time.

I don't get why people are so offended. Even Americans coming back into the country has had to show their social media. What's the big deal?

But some do and some people have been fired or not gotten a job because what they wrote on social media.

Are you supposed to supply all your social media accounts and go through months of AP if you're from a risk group?

What kind of risk group is that? No, you don't do that but you do have to pass background check for long gun sales and a more comprehensive check for handgun sales.

Any good employer will care what their employees are posting about on social media. Because they may post something which will make the employee and the employer look bad. The employer will look bad for employing such an employee.

It's the invasion of privacy. I don't think it's right for the government (or an employer) two violate your privacy unless they have a really good reason to do it (a warrant, the same way they can search your house and underwear only with a warrant). It's wrong when done to anyone, no matter where they're from. I personally have nothing to hide but it doesn't mean I want anyone to see my discussions with my best friend about her ex or the texts I exchange with my husband.
