Orange County may take stand against state's 'sanctuary' laws

Just more than a week after tiny Los Alamitos voted to defy California's law protecting immigrants in the country illegally, Orange County is poised to become a counterpoint against the state's resistance to the Trump administration's policies.

On Tuesday, Orange County supervisors may consider whether to take up a resolution to condemn and possibly take legal action against the state's "sanctuary" laws.

 

"These state laws are preempted by federal law," Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson said. "Our officers actually face penalties under state law if they so much as talk to federal agents for the wrong thing. That's just unacceptable and it's contrary to federal law."

 

Nelson said he'll broach in closed session whether to join a federal lawsuit against the state or launch its own litigation.

No doubt.  I thought everyone in CA was in support of the Oakland Mayor.  Guess I was wrong.

Orange County has long been a Republican stronghold in SoCal in the past, less so now due to changing demographics but it does have big Legal Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant population right now. So a couple of the big things going on in the OC is the homeless situations and the Sanctuary State BS.

An island of sanity and reason in a sea of insanity. I hope there are pending charges for the mayor that put ICE agents in danger and aided and abetted the criminals they were pursuing. There need to be lawsuits against any state officials who would penalize law enforcement for cooperating with federal agents. There needs to be prison sentences for officials who run sanctuary cities who aid and abet illegal aliens breaking the law. We can't let commiefornia get away with breaking laws just because they don't like them.
