Hi VJ members!

I am new here. I need your help. I’ve been working so hard to petition my dad to come here in the US. Everything went fine until we found out just recently that his TB culture exam turned out to be positive. He was told to get a 6-month period of treatment in

Manila. My concern is my dad lives in Cebu City and works full-time. I did some research and found out that his treatment cannot be done anywhere else other than at St.Lukes Extension Clinic in Manila and he has to reside there as they are done DAILY at the clinic. Is this true???

Anyone here who has the same experience? Any other options for applicants that live outside of Manila? Any other hospitals or clinics that may be accredited by the US embassy other than St. Lukes in Manila? Please help me on this. We don’t know anyone in Manila and my dad cannot quit his full-time job. I am getting so helpless. More importantly, he got a second opinion from a clinic in Cebu City. He took an X-ray and sputum tests and they both turned out to be NEGATIVE. I have also read some thread from other websites that SLEC is giving false medical results so that applicants will have to pay for treatment fees and that’s one way for them to make money or rip-off the applicants. I don’t know how true this is but if there’s anybody who can shed some light on this. Please advise! Hope to get some answers! Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Jacque

It’s better to ask the MODS to move your post to Philippines forum to get further answer as this is country specific and I also suggest you search on there as well. There are many other applicants that have/had done sputum testing and/or TB treatment.

Sorry to hear this but unfortunately SLEC is the only facility that is accredited by the US Department of State.

SLEC uses an advanced machines for testing TB and also follows CDC guidelines. The costs for sputum testing and TB treatment are all inclusive on the medical fee, so NO!! SLEC is not ripping you off and definitely not giving out false medical result. If he tested positive then he needs to be treated. TB kills so they are just protecting both the immigrant and the people from where they are intending to immigrate.

Thank you Aila for your response. He did test positive at St.Lukes but Negative at Cebu Doctor’s Hospital. Although not accredited by DOS, CDH is the best in Cebu. I just needed some clarification. Thank you for the information you have provided. I really appreciate it. May I please know what MODS mean? Sorry, I am a newbie here.
