Questions In Preparation for Affidavit of Support

Hi there,

I am anticipating receiving my NOA2 by the end of May 2018, and am wanting to get totally clear about the requirements for the affidavit of support. Here are my clarification questions:

  1. I am not self-employed, so it's my understanding that my most recent pay-stubs indicating my income are most relevant to showing whether or not I can financially support my fiance when she arrives in the US, correct?
  2. When determining the Federal Poverty Level, am I supposed to look at the income requirement for a household of 1 or 2, given that I am trying to show I can support my fiance, as well?
  3. My most recent 1040 for the year 2017 shows my Gross Income at right around 115% of the 2018 Federal Poverty Level. This is because I only started working in April of 2017, otherwise it would have been well above the 125% requirement for the affidavit of support. Will this be an issue? My most recent pay stubs show my monthly income exceeds the 125% Federal Poverty Level requirement
  4. My monetary assets (savings) will be equivalent to more than 5 times the difference between 125% of the Federal Poverty Level and my Gross Income reported on my 2017 1040 when my NOA2 is issued. Is this sufficient to make up the gap in my meeting the FPL requirement?
  5. I am supposed to start collecting my income/savings evidence the moment my NOA2 is issued, and not before, correct?

I ask that last question because I want to know if it's important that I show as much income and savings as I possibly can up until my NOA2 is issued. I would like to take a trip to visit my fiance and meet her parents soon. However, seeing as that will require me taking time off work (I don't have paid time off at the moment), and using some of my savings, I'm not sure that's a good idea until after the NOA2 is issued and I can officially show my income/savings in the best light possible. Should I save up and keep making as much money as possible until the NOA2 is issued, and only spend my savings/take a couple of weeks off from earning income once that paperwork is filed?

I hope my questions are clear and that you all can help me out. This will really help us decide how we handle the next few months of our lives apart! Thanks so much in advance for your help.
