I don't have a passport and when i want to apply for becoming citizen, Will i be denied because of missing passport? I came here legal and stayed legal, but due to other problems - lost passport, I can't recieve a passport soon. I am still in process of removing conditions on my green card. I also like to know if i can complete i751 process without a passport. Please advice, thank you.

There's no requirement by USCIS to keep a foreign passport updated when applying for the ROC or the N400----OP cannot be denied based solely on not having one.

Biographic information can be confirmed through birth certificate/other identification, and previous AOS with USCIS.

Travel history can be confirmed through USCIS databases and info sharing with border control.

Thank you for all responses.

I have an original birth ceritifate and also translation. So right now, am i good with no passport?

Can i just use my birth ceritifcate to proove my citizenship to argentina?

You should’ve had a passport when you entered the US, otherwise you wouldn’t be let in. Your birth certificate is a sufficient proof of your Argentine citizenship if Argentina follows ius soli. But passport may still be necessary at the interview. Bring the expired one you entered with.

yes i recently lost my passport and everything about me has been legal so far. I don't have a passport - i lost it and i applied for a new one. It just takes long time to get one. so i have no chance to bring an expired passport. in this case, would i have any problem?

thank you again.

You won't be the first person to attend their interview without a current foreign passport.  It won't be an issue, as it's not a USCIS requirement to have an updated foreign passport.

Having a UK birth certificate doesn’t mean you are British. It also depends on the citizenship/permanent resident status of your parents at the time of your birth. Also the rules can change dependending on when you were born, as the law has change a lot over the last 30 years.

If the UK can have complex rules, I wouldn’t be surprised if other countries do. USCIS would then need to know the citizenship rules of the other country. A passport is a document from a country proving you are a citizen (and states it on the passport).

Well a German passport does not proof that you're a citizen of Germany believe it our not.

@naron13, do you have some sort of receipt to show that you're applying for the new passport? Also did you file a report for the loss of the previous one? If yes, those are documents I would bring to an interview. But you can't bring what you don't have. I would explain the situation to the interviewing officer if asked. I do not think you'll be denied because of that.

If that is the case, you should be fine. Just bring a copy of the police report if you have one.
