Hi, good day everyone!

I'm entering the US this coming May 1 and I'd like to know how soon I can work.

Do I have to wait for my green card to arrive? Or my SSN card? Or both?

My visa classification is CR1 and I'm from the Philippines. We will be staying in Kansas.

One of the main reasons I'm eager to work is - we need all the funds we can get to help start in the US and actually maintain to live here, my MIL will help us out with the initial cost but I want to start paying her back as soon as possible! Also, my husband has his online job and even though it was sufficient in the Philippines, it's not going to be enough in the US and I don't want him carrying the burden of being the only person working. Plus, to be honest, I'm not really the stay at home kinda girl. I need to work, I want to work or else I'd feel useless.

I am interested in applying online and disclosing the date I can work (if this is possible).

Your answers are very  much welcome. Please ask me more details if ever I missed to mention something crucial. Thanks in advance!

When you enter on a CR-1, you can work immediately after entering the US.  The stamp you will receive inn your passport at POE serves as a temporary Green Card, and it gives you all the benefits (such as work authorization) immediately....Congratulations.

Yes, you're allowed to work as the endorsed immigrant visa acts as a green card for 1 year.

However, you cannot complete an I-9 or actually start getting paid until you have your Social Security card. I believe you can stop by the SSA shortly after entry to apply for the card in person...waiting for it to arrive on its own can take a few to several weeks.

I worked March 19 upon entering Feb 24 2017. Took a week for my Social to arrive and my green card for like 10 days later. Most company would ask for your social number and your passport stamp is enough to show you have a valid status. You can also get a state ID while you wait for your green card for other form of identification.

Depending on what kind of work you wanted to get in to, in my experience interview date comes pretty fast. It took me 5 days to apply and get hired. Applying online early could be beneficial or it could work the opposite way where they won't consider you since you are not here yet. I hope it would be favorable for you. I'm in the Food and Beverage for so long that it came easy for me. Wish you all the Best. God bless!
