this happens believe it or not. well, not necessarily on cardboards exactly, but home births are common. giving birth in shanties under the bridge happens too! :)

Yeah only if you live in the slums are cardboard births common. My SIL had a home birth in Mindanao but she would never do it on cardboard

Well, I thought in such a civilized country that we would have a house or apartment. I did not know that it was so hard just to find a place to live. And so expensive! Most rental companies said even IF I had a US Social Security Number, it probably would not help. You also need rental history(how do you get that if you are new?) and they want a high credit score, and they want credit card information. It is really difficult and complicated. In the Philippines there is not even an application to fill out. You just pay someone! lol Here you have to pay at every place you apply. It's $25-$50 per person, per place you apply.

I would much rather live in the Philippines..but the need to make money overrides that!

something isn't right about your story, what about family? It sounds like total NON planning your part. So you came on a CR-1 visa, why couldn't your husband rent a place? I'm totally confused with what happened.

Sounds very nice! How did you get her a house and car without SSN and credit? Wait, fiancé or fiancée?

You came here to live with your US citizen husband, correct? My thought would be you would live with him..his house, apartment etc. that’s really awful and misleading if he brought you here without a place for either of you to stay. Also isn’t part of the visa process having funds to support the immigrant? There should have been housing set up. Sorry you did not have that. Yes, America isn’t what everyone thinks it is and we all aren’t rich. We have to work hard for our money, even with advanced degrees, plus people don’t realize expenses such as taxes etc since my all countries have that.

I'm sorry for the troubles and hardship you've gone through. At the same time, to be blunt, much of it was your own poor planning. I may have missed it in the 10 pages of comments so far, but was your husband living in the US or abroad? If abroad, what did he show the CO as proof of his intent to establish US domicile? If they accepted his I-864 while living abroad without a solid plan of where to live, they really shouldn't have approved the visa.

An SSN and driver's license is not required to rent or own. You just need proper identification (i.e. your passport). I don't want to speak for everywhere, but I don't believe they are allowed to ask immigration status, but even if they did, the endorsed visa acts as a green card.

Now, the ability to get approved on credit alone with no history is a challenge. That's typically where the petitioner comes into play since they should have already had this all established by either living in the US or having an agreement prior to coming to the US to live permanently. But if that's not available, you can almost always put down x months of rent as pre-payment in lieu of a credit check. I have no doubts that if there was money in the bank, you could find a place to live. Money talks by itself anyway. I'm not finding it believable that the only options were bug infested motels for $3000/month. For $3000/month, you could definitely find a nice place outside the city and rich areas.

This story looks really fishy.

Yes, she has a right to her own privacy. But that does not give her the right to violate the TOS by telling people not to post. If a comment is against the TOS (not saying it was!), report it or ignore it...no need to violate the TOS.

Me thinks they are trolling for some reason, a lot of exaggeration going on. You didn't need to have the baby in the roach hotel, the local hospital would have to take you if you just walked into the ER...no one will let you just have a baby on the streets/hotel....so many red flags, why are you so jaded now?
