Hello,

I had arrived in US on 10th March on IR-1 visa. Paid Green Card fee before my arrival to US. I want to ask following questions:

1-In how much time, I will get my Physical Green Card in mail? On USCIS website it is showing “it will take 120days after arrival in USA?”

2-Will I get SSN No. with Green Card in Mail or should I have to go SSN Office for my SSN No?

3-Can I apply for Learning Driving License & for Job on Stamped I-551 Evidence PR Visa?

Please reply all above questions

Here are my answers

1. Mine took 63 days

2. Mine took 3 weeks and it cane automatically in the mail but I requested it on my DS-260. If you didn't, you will need to apply for knee in person.

3. Yes, you can. You are a lawful permanent resident even though your plastic card hasn't arrived yet.

Note regarding my timings - I arrived here 6 days before Christmas 2016. I believe my GC and SSN card took a little longer than usual due to the Christmas holidays.

1. my gc came in 35 days of arrival.

2. i got my DL after 6 months

3. Got my SSN within a week of arrival

4. tried a couple of jobs but everyone asked physical GC. Even though passport stamps says its a valid GC for a year but people were little, not sure. and i was not even interested to pursue the seeking job.

5. As soon as GC came, I started looking for a job actively. Worked lifting boxes at mail company'coz they were the first people who were interested to hire me when i got my GC. I kept on searching jobs while working there. Got a couple of interviews but none went through properly.  Mostly my issue of not having DL was a problem coz i could not commute. Well, cant go biking 20 miles one way for a job.

6. after Thanksgiving, I found my current job. I love working here and it's in my field of expertise.  People are wonderful and have great team.

7. Went on the first American business trip in Jan flying business class. I was giggling and smiling from ear to ear.

In between this, we went on a road trip, enjoyed being home and read a lot. Well not to mention slept a lot too.

You just came to America. Understand American culture and get used to locality, spend time with family. Relax and ease for few month and then when you are confident and understand the American culture, then start seeking jobs,
