I-485 Interview 3 months after filing

Hi everyone,

I just received a "REQUEST FOR APPLICANT TO APPEAR FOR INITIAL INTERVIEW" for April 24, 2018. The thing is, I sent in my I-485 application in January 2018 (NOA date January 22) along with I-130, I-765 and I-131. That makes my interview date just over 3 months after filing. Reading from the forum posts here and the timelines on the USCIS website, this seems unusually fast.

Has anybody else had the same experience? I'm just wondering why my case is somehow accelerated and if it means that post-interview there would be longer waiting time to receive my green card. I have not even received my EAD and Advanced Parole.

FYI, I'm adjusting from F1 STEM OPT based on marriage to a US citizen. I was called and went for my biometric in February.

interviews are scheduled and handled by the USCIS field office closest to where you live so this can happen, especially if your local office only processes a minimal number of cases.

which local office are you in?

i suggest filling in your timeline, too so others from the same city/area can find you.

My local office is Washington DC (it's actually Fairfax VA). The USCIS processing times for this field office says 10.5-19.5 months on the website, which is why I'm a little confused why mine is only 3 months.

I filed January 22nd and got my interview letter today for April 30th. A lot of other January filers got their letters today too. No sign of AP or EAD but interviews seem to happening! Don't complain, I'm certainly not!!

Thanks! The scientist in me likes data and is skeptical when something seems unusual. But I feel better knowing that there are others out there in the same (faster) boat!

I was worried too until I came on here and saw all the others that have received theirs today. It kind of makes the EAD and AP redundant now, mine is showing that it will be adjudicated June 16th... yet my GC interview is April 30th. WEIRD. Anyway, I'm really pleased and am now scrabbling around trying to get all my paperwork in order. Good luck!

Omg, wow!!! I am in the DC office too. I filed in Oct 2017 and i havent heard anything past “ready to be scheduled for an interview”. 3 months for the DC office sounds impossible. But i guess you are luckier than all the others waiting at the DC office!

Hey Julia, what does your case status say online? When I check my 485 status, it says "Employment-Based Interview was Scheduled". Isn't this weird since mine is family-based and not employment-based, or could it just be a mistake?

One other thing is that the return address on the interview letter envelope says NBC, and not my local office, which is DC. Is yours the same?

Hahaha, I just posted this. Mine says employment too, but I'm K1. I got another notification after that that says "we scheduled your interview for your form I-485, application to register permanent residence or adjust status" literally within a minute of the employment based one.  I think someone pushed the wrong button, but I got a little worried for a minute!

Thanks a lot! Mine still says employment based since last night but I'm guessing the guy just forgot to change mine.

How do you get these alerts, btw? Is this like an RSS feed or did you sign up for an account on the USCIS website?

On the website USCIS Case Status, it says Employment based interview as the heading then all the AOS wording in the paragraph, on the myUSCIS login, it still says fingerprint fee received and the above screenshot is from the app on iPhone. It's called USCIS Case Status & Visa Tracker and it sends me a notification when something changes.

I'm such a noob. I literally go to the USCIS website everyday and enter my number to see if anything changes. Thanks for this!

Now I need to go for my i-693 medical and make sure my husband remembers everything about me... Good luck with your prep!

I did a lot of research yesterday to confirm this. I don't need the i693 at all. It's not laid out clearly but if your medical for the K1 was done within the last year (and everything was ok) then you don't have to do this part at all. We nearly travelled 2 hours and paid $300 for nothing when we were filing the i485
