Should Perez have been deported to Australia instead?

Hehe, no.

What I'm saying is that while he's legally Mexican I actually see him as more of an American.  America (middle school, highschool, military, prison ...) certainly had more influence on forming this person than Mexico.  America got an innocent kid from Mexico and now returns a criminal with PTSD.

I hear ya.  Had he only obtained his USC back in 1994, he would still be in prison, not deported.  It seems he made more than one bad choice along the way.  At least he got out of prison sooner than he was eligible to.

I suppose if a Dr. is found guilty of trafficking in narcotics, and is also an LPR, they may face deportation and a lifetime bar as well.
