Field Office Interview Too Far - Out Of State

My family just got our naturalization interview notices but the field office is in Latham, NY (Albany, upstate NY).

Problem is we have been living for more than 10 years now in Norwalk, CT.   Latham, NY is about 3 hours drive away.

Can we call USCIS to request a change of field office since there might be a mistake somewhere?

i had the same problem. I had to drive to Atlanta to get my naturalization done, 4 hours away from my home. My luck at the naturalization interview, i had to bring more paperwork that i was missing in the original N-400. Original court printout and certified. Long story short, there is no local office in Alabama for USCIS

I had to leave the state as well. It isn't a mistake. I had an early appointment as well, which would have meant leaving my home at 0400. I went up the night before.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

That’s interesting because on the USCIS site I had seen that some of the Fairfield county zip codes were assigned to Albany but then it changed the next time I looked it up. I live in the same area as you  so I was worried my case was going to be sent to Albany.  Interesting that they did send some. Do you mind if I ask when you filed?

I can only speculate that they were sending certain zip codes to Albany to share case load. I took this screenshot on march 7th when I discovered it but I’m unsure if that’s been the case for the past few months until it changed back to being assigned to Hartford.  And it was only a small portion of Fairfield county. I unfortunately don’t think you can request it to be sent to Hartford though.

I live in Stamford, CT and was also scheduled for my interview in Latham. I see your post is from March, have you had your interview yet? How was it?

I live in CT and had my interview last month in Latham-NY as well. Interview was ok, I was recommended for approval but still waiting for oath ceremony to be scheduled, no updates at all.

Blah, I was really hoping to have the ceremony soon after the interview. Guess the waiting game will go on for a while longer.

It really depends, There is a January filer who had the oath ceremony scheduled 15 days after the interview. Another February filer had schedule 27 days after, a closer friend 35 days... just need some patience.

Yes I did.  It went well. The oath-taking ceremony got scheduled just 2 weeks later.  However, for some reason, we didn't get the mailed notices.  So we missed the ceremony.  I only found out when I called USCIS.  They quickly resolved the issue and we were rescheduled again in 2 weeks.  But the ceremony happened in Hartford.  I was hoping it would be in Bridgeport.

Thank you so much for getting back to me! Hope I get my ceremony date as quickly as you did. Congrats!
