I used 100 years as a simple point of reference.  Yes, it has been around for thousands of years.  But in America, only a couple hundred. What additional resources do you wish to apply?   The NRA teaches folks how to handle guns safely, and sponsors fun shooting competitions to help people get better.  We try to stop kids from bullying one another.  Yes, crime is down, so why do we need more education?  It’s working.  Why all the hub bub?  Obviously, we don’t have a problem, other than the MSM making it seem like one.  Glad we are starting to see eye-to-eye on this.

Please don't confuse NRA out reach efforts with improving society through education.

Las Vegas was not done with a bump stock.  Put that thought out of your head. Google Las Vegas shooting machine gun sounds.  I don’t think you’ll need my help on that part.

I know you will never be convinced but

From Wikipedia:

The incident is the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in the United States. It reignited the debate about gun laws in the U.S., with attention focused on bump fire stocks, which Paddock used to allow his semi-automatic rifles to fire at a rate similar to that of a fully automatic weapon.

Background checks are what they are.  They are done via the NCIS and FBI.  Perfect?  No.  But I don’t see how they can be any better today than they are.  Improvements would happen incrementally, as technology advances.  You say it’s costly and ineffective.  What is your suggested alternative?  It’s not like we can just ask people if they are good people.  There needs to be more database inter-linking, IMHO.  Not keeping others out.

We can and must do better.

Did he say that? I would think clear backpacks fall under the 4th. Also most ppl won’t realize this but I thought I’d point it out. The rifle in the photo would not be an assault weapon under any assault weapon laws as it has no assault weapon “features”.

Actually, he did say that which brings into question his intellectual standing with respect to knowing the Constitution.  Apparently, he believes a backpack is a form of free expression.  I know when I go into an arena today, they don't allow bags of any sort, maybe backpacks/bags should be banned altogether in schools.

ALLEN: “One more about school. You mentioned your backpack. What do they do with your backpacks?”
HOGG: “I think after we come back from spring break, they are requiring all of us to have clear backpacks. One of the other important things to realize is many students want their privacy. There are many, for example, females in our school that when they go through their menstrual cycle, they don’t want people to see their tampons and stuff. It’s unnecessary, it’s embarrassing for a lot of the students and it makes them feel isolated and separated from the rest of American school culture where they’re having essentially their First Amendment rights infringed upon because they can’t freely wear whatever backpack they want regardless of what it is. It has to be a clear backpack. What we should have is just more policies that make sure that these students are feeling safe and secure in their schools and not like they’re being fought against like it’s a prison.”

Delaney Tarr, one of the student speakers said on Saturday: "We will take the big and we will take the small, but we will keep fighting. When they give us that inch, that bump stock ban, we will take a mile. We're not here for bread crumbs. We are here for real change."

As an aside, I've decided to become an NRA member after this weekend. I've always been on the fence about it, but I realize until I do, I don't have a real voice in the matter.

I feel the same way, @Sonea.  Was never interested in the past.  Signed up last week.  $100 for 5 years, not a bad price at all.

I really wish my grandfather were here to ask why he was a member so many years ago.  I wonder if he did it just because, or under conditions like we are seeing today.

You guys have been poaching the NRA talking points for years and were not paid members?

Where have a poached NRA talking points? You mean where I suggested people under 25 should have a psychiatric review to purchase a semiautomatic similar to Germany? How could I be poaching for "years" when I've only been posting here for about 6 months?

I realize your post quoted another user but I get the feeling you are also addressing me.

Hmm , sorry about any perceived implication.  I don't think I have seen enough of your posts to understand where you might sit on these issues.

The only thing I am guilty of poaching is eggs.  Considering that I have no idea what the NRA “talking points” are, I can say unequivocally no, I have not.  I don’t really care about the politics surrounding guns, except to correct the misconceptions of the uninformed.

I have seen enough of Sonea’s posts to assure you that he or she is very educated on the subject.  Very in-depth knowledge and willing to share facts to clear up confusion on the matter.
