Did he say that? I would think clear backpacks fall under the 4th. Also most ppl won’t realize this but I thought I’d point it out. The rifle in the photo would not be an assault weapon under any assault weapon laws as it has no assault weapon “features”.

but it's "scary black" in color!

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

The MDL wants to work its way down the list starting with the 1st and 2nd, who cares if they cancel the 4th as well.  Also, the weapon looks menacing, so therefore based on MDL logic, it is bad.

Actually yours

Teachers are the answer.  They will just teach our children that it's not nice to shoot one another.

Actually, there is more evidence that this will reduce volence more than most of the proposals here."

No flag for sarcasm so I assumed you were playing it straight. Where did we land with Bumpstocks and enhanced background checking systems?

It was your suggestion that education would reduce the violence.  But it hasn’t.  Education has been in place for the past 100 years.  Mass shootings are a much newer phenomenon.

Bump stocks have been around what, 11 years?  Oh, and are not used in mass shootings.  (Well, maybe in LV, but I have my doubts)

BG checks have been around for many years, and will never go away.

Peaceful protest. I’m for it regardless of whether I agree with what is being protested or not. It’s in the same Constitution that gives me the right to keep and bear arms.

Peaceful protests are fine, and are as protected as the right to self protection.  I just wish these protesters would learn to clean up after themselves (reference other thread).

Clarification on him not being a child? I believe his birthday was in 2000 so if he isn’t already 18 he will be this year.

Thanks.

That’s the Florida yearbook not a 2015 ca yearbook

Ok, thanks.  Figured someone here had already seen it and either debunked or proved it.  Just saw it in passing on FB tonight.  It would have been a pretty stupid thing for CNN to do, but one ne’er know just how far the medial will stoop these days...

I really wish people would quit using pay-to-view news sites as links here.  It’s annoying when others can’t read them.  Should be against the TOS.  Mods?

Best not to believe everything you see on twitter. If your position can't be defended without resorting to misinformation, reconsider if it is defensible at all.

You got the wrong person.  That’s Jacque that twits all the time.  Don’t have it, never will.

But I figured someone here had an answer either way.

Also, in regards to my complaint above, I found this to be interesting...  when I click on Jacques’ NYTimes link, I get a covered, gotta pay Adblock.  But when I parsed the link, it shows up just fine. Maybe this will help someone else out when viewing links posted here:

  • I hope education goes back more than 100 years.  Setting that aside, the additional resources applied to education can reduce violence and improve educational outcomes.  Do you have information that rebuts that fact?
  • I am sure that 99.999% of the rounds that were triggered  by a bumpstock were in a recreational setting that harmed no one.  But after Las Vegas are you really willing to have effectively "machine guns" running around on the street?  I bet you had never heard of bumpstocks prior to LV and now you have to have one?  For what purpose on earth?
  • BG Checks are not cutting the mustard, the information systems and processes that feed and correlate data need to come out of the stone age.  Why support such a costly and ineffective system?  Times have changed.

I used 100 years as a simple point of reference.  Yes, it has been around for thousands of years.  But in America, only a couple hundred. What additional resources do you wish to apply?   The NRA teaches folks how to handle guns safely, and sponsors fun shooting competitions to help people get better.  We try to stop kids from bullying one another.  Yes, crime is down, so why do we need more education?  It’s working.  Why all the hub bub?  Obviously, we don’t have a problem, other than the MSM making it seem like one.  Glad we are starting to see eye-to-eye on this.

Las Vegas was not done with a bump stock.  Put that thought out of your head. Google Las Vegas shooting machine gun sounds.  I don’t think you’ll need my help on that part.

Background checks are what they are.  They are done via the NCIS and FBI.  Perfect?  No.  But I don’t see how they can be any better today than they are.  Improvements would happen incrementally, as technology advances.  You say it’s costly and ineffective.  What is your suggested alternative?  It’s not like we can just ask people if they are good people.  There needs to be more database inter-linking, IMHO.  Not keeping others out.
