What I find fascinating is those countries that do rely on their government for protection are the same countries where their civilian populations suffered badly during the World Wars. Maybe the USA can learn something from them.

When seconds count police are minutes away. Are you aware that the average police response time is 15 minutes (in rural areas it could be a lot longer)? A lot can happen in 15 minites. Lets assume a police officer was perminately posted at every house. For your idea of having the government protect everyone we then need to change our laws. That's because the supreme court ruled police are under NO obligation to protect anyone. The recent shooting in Flordia is a prime example. Law enforcement chose to be cowards instead of doing what they are paid to do and there will be no repercussions because the law allows them to be cowards if they choose to do so. Personally I think my odds are better if I shoot an armed intruder in my house first then call the police to drag the scum bag's carcass out of my house rather than asking them to wait a minute while I call the police then wait some more until the police get there. Somehow I doubt an armed intruder is going to be so accommodating. Maybe in a liberal fantasy land they will but not in the real world.
