Thank you missileman. They did not need any interpreter either. Interview was very smooth.

Only thing I did not understand. He kept their passports and said I will send it within 10-12days to your home. How come he requested to send a copy of their indian police certificat though? Kind of confusing for me.

Any advise ?

Hello everyone,

This forum helped me a lot to prepare my parents interview. Thank you very much.

I have one last question please if anyone can help me:

They got they interview and officer asked my parents a police certificat from india. But They are living in Germany for more than 38 years now. Can anyone help me how to find their police certificat from india please? Do they need to go to india to get this paper?

Also the officer kept their passports and said I will send it to your home. If he is sending the passport to home that means all is good. Then why is he asking for a police certificat? Is he waiting first to get the police certificat then send the passport ?

Can anyone help me please?

Thank you

The instructions re immigration are very clear that anywhere they lived for a year or more since they were 16 requires a police certificate. Check the state.gov page on “reciprocity by country”, search for India then scroll to the section on police certificates & it will explain how to get them.

And yes they will not be issued visas without these.

Hi,

so I checked the site you recommanded.Thank you.

My parents have the OCI means they will have to get it from the district police station. Does it mean they have to go to india to get this one paper? If yes then they need their passport back from us embassy because they kept their passports.

In india, it’s hard to get this kind of paper when you are not present in the country.

Anyone can help for this case please?

I am sharing the information from state.gov website. They enter in the 4th category but they don’t reside in india.  :-/

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

  • All Indian nationals aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police clearance certificates from the Regional Passport Office.
  • Indian passport holders residing outside India should obtain a statement from their local Indian Embassy, Consulate, High Commission, or Deputy High Commission confirming they have no criminal record.
  • Non-Indian applicants residing in India who are registered with the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) should obtain police certificates from the FRRO serving their area of residence.
  • Non-Indian applicants who reside in India and are not FRRO registered, such as foreigners holding Overseas Citizen of Indian status or members of the Tibetan community holding Identity Certificates, should obtain police clearance certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.
  • Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) nationals applying outside India.

thanks for the help

Um... the bit you quoted above says the following....why can’t they do this?

  • Indian passport holders residing outside India should obtain a statement from their local Indian Embassy, Consulate, High Commission, or Deputy High Commission confirming they have no criminal record.

SusieQQQ ,

they don’t enter in the categorie of indian passport holder because they do not have indian passport. They have OCI, not the regular indian passport.

Their first port of call should still be to contact their nearest embassy. It seems to me that this is the logical category under which your parents would fall given their situation, despite the technicalities of which documents they hold, as they clearly don’t reside in India and they are presumably not non-Indian, but the embassy will know best. If they are deemed non-Indian then they need to get a statement from the embassy saying PC is not available.
