Hi Everyone,

Hope anybody who has the same case can answer my question. I received a combo card finally yesterday. Now my husband asked me about the Social Security Number for insurance. I didn’t get one before. I remembered when I filled the forms either 1-485 or I-765, they asked me if I needed them to arranged a SS card for me. I said yes and ticked the box. My question is: do I need still to go myself to social security office and apply the card or I can wait and UCSIS will do everything for me and send the card to me ?

Thanks and Good Luck 🤞🏻

Maybe look it up again in the instructions, but I recall (and I could be wrong) that it was if you check the box, it is only giving them permission to share information with the SS dept.

Just as FYI, a SSN is NOT required to be put on health insurance

YMMV

that is not entirely correct

Since the Affordable Care Act was implemented, most insurance companies will ask for a social security number before allowing you to enroll in a plan. For the most part, they require this information so they can report it to the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS uses the information to determine who meets the minimum essential coverage requirements under the Affordable Care Act and who has to pay the individual mandate penalty fine.

I was entirely correct.  If you do not have a SSN you cannot be excluded from coverage

YMMV
