HELP! Accidentally opened k1 packet

No worries am sure they will get back to you soon. They might just ask you to bring it back in to be resealed.

Getting confirmation to get it resealed or not is fine (although they do tend to be overlay careful), but personally I think it's fine as-is. You can't alter the contents with a cut that small, which is what they are really looking out for.

 

Many embassies cut a significantly larger part of the envelope (the corner) as a means for airport security to ensure there's only papers in the packet.

Your package looks so thin, lucky! Mine was so fat it was hard fitting it in my carry-on. 🤣

 

My envelope was open about as much as your is, damaged by the post office, I bet. So it wasn't nicely cut as yours, it was just a big tear. I had no issues at POE.

But good that you asked anyway, better to be safe than sorry.

The cut is about 2.5 inches here is a clearer photo. It is definitely too small of a cut for items inside to be altered. The embassy hasn't got back to me yet. 

This has put a bit of a downer on what was supposed to be our weekend booking my flights

I've had a response from

the embassy.

this is what their email reads 

 

"Based on the information you have furnished, you may wish to explain to the U.S. immigration officials at the U.S. Port of Entry that your visa package was damaged during transit.  If you are concerned that the damaged area may widen, you may apply a small amount of clear tape."

 

looks like I'm all good to go and book my flight! I'm going to print the embassy's emails to me to show at POE if needed.

Another update - embassy reviewed my photos of the damaged envelope and have asked for me to mail it to them for re-sealing...

 

And this weekend has 2 UK bank holidays.. i don't think i'll be able to actually book my flight until the week beginning 9th :-s

Hi @DollyDolly !

 

Was wondering how long did you get your package resealed after the investigation? I tore my file about 2.5 inch too because it got caught in the zipper but the embassy told me that I had to surrender the file to them for an investigation. MY USM is in Singapore, FYI
