Have you stopped driving your car?  Heating your house?  Tell us what YOU have done to eliminate carbon build up.

I have been right here trying to persuade folks that action on eliminating carbon is necessary.

Not sure if you just missed my question, or were too embarrassed to answer it.  Re-posting in case it’s the former.

I estimate I have cut my carbon footprint by 30%. Not perfect but progress.

I’d be interested in hearing how.  PM if you don’t want to share publicly.  I cannot give up my vehicles at this point in my life, but if there are other ways I could make a change, I would be interested in knowing what is effective.

Oh, and congrats on 30%.  I think that is a lot more than many are doing.  Self included. (Though I tend to drive less than 8K per year, which I think is pretty low).

Truthfully, I cut back on air travel and bought a heat pump. My job is 12 miles instead of 25 away so that helps as well. With LED lights there is more savings that you might think at first blush.  My TV and REfer though use more power than the ones they replaced oddly enough. Love my OLED LG.

We are considering a Tesla 3 when our number comes up, as Bill points out ad naseum the energy to make new is not nothing with 1/2 the carbon footprint of a car being mfg.  It makes me think driving something into the ground might be a net good thing.

If I had a solar roof that would be sweet.  I look forward to having the economy of scale kick inn for Solar and Smart Grid.  Germany has had this for years.  Those solar panels are paid for years ago and still kicking out juice to sell back to the grid.

Thanks for all of that.  Maybe I am not doing too poorly after all.  All my lights in the house are LED. Expensive to replace, but cheap to run.  14 miles one way to work, but I only go to work once every 4-5 days.  TVs are old, LCD I think, but not sure.  Solar panel on the roof, but don’t think it is working properly, need to look into that.  I have a friend who is making about $1500 a year or so with his panels, selling electricity back.  Good investment.

Not sure I would buy a Tesla for many years; too expensive yet.  Maybe one day...

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Doesn't matter. Methane has to go somewhere. From inside your house, it will make it's way outside. Even if you hold that fart in, methane is reabsorbed into your blood stream and released via the lungs, sometimes noticed as a cause of bad breath. Your contribution to global warming is determined by what you put in your mouth to eat, not by what eventually comes out. Sorry to be a downer :)

So if we stop eating, we are reducing our carbon footprint?

Many better ways to do that. As a nation we do probably should eat less on average though.

Overall, eating is not a big contributor to global warming. Our food industry is a big contributor though. Mono crops, massive amounts of fertilizer and insecticide, factory meat farms, deforestation.  As we make better and easier ways to support the billions of people on the earth, we should probably recognize that the solution is in many ways part of the problem

Methane

If I fart, it's methane; if you fart, it's youthane.

A lot of stuff is made out of poly-youthane.

Accordingly, second-person farting seems to be good for the economy.
