I searched the question but I couldnt find the answer on the forums.

When given the visa after the interview, do you have to get married within 90 days after it is recieved? or 90 days upon ENRTY to the U.S.?

just wanted to know so I can have an idea when to marry and not rush it so we can organize it with the family instread of rushing it. Thanks.

It starts upon entry.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Is it best to actually just do the court house thing and then plan for the bigger wedding? What I am asking, is if the Service Center actually takes their time processing things like this as well...

That's what my fiance and I are planning to do. Because we're not sure when we can have the big fancy wedding once I'm allowed to cross into the States, we're just going to have a civil ceremony and get the paperwork started, then plan for the real ceremony afterwards.

*sigh* I hate to wait to wear the pretty white dress later on, but I'm kinda glad that I don't have to plan a wedding on top of this process.

Be careful about planning a wedding. We planned ours because we figured with the timelines on here we would be fine. Well, the consualte is temporarliy closed and no interview. Wedding delayed at this point. Sometimes the second set of security checks take longer than expected. Whatever you decide....good luck and congrats!

I'm not sure I understand the question. What does the service center have to do with anything once you have the visa?

We're planning to do the courthouse thing at first as well - then spend that wad to send in the AOS paperwork. We also have a few mini vacations in August and September, but then we can start saving for a wedding (hopefully he will have work auth shortly thereafter as well).

Um, a K1 visa is not for you "to decide if you really want to move to the United States".

It's for US citizens engaged to foreign fiances who have already decided that they foreign fiance is commited to moving to the US and marrying in the US.

Once the visa is in hand, it's safe to plan a wedding. If there isn't enough time, best to plan on a courthouse wedding first and plan something bigger, if desired, for down the road.

Upon entry.

We just received notification of our NOA2 today and my fiancee had the exact same question! I was certain that it would start upon entry into the US, but, then again, this is the U.S. Government we are talking about. ;)

From this site http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...types_2994.html I saw that the visa is only valid for 4 months from the date of approval. Thoughts?

Extending the Petition

The I-129F petition is valid for four months from the date of approval from USCIS. Consular officers can extend the validity of the petition (revalidate the petition) if it expires before the processing of the visa application is completed

The PETITION is valid for four months.

The Visa is valid for 6 months meaning the beneficiary has 6 months to use it to enter the US one time.

Lots of sections there. Which one says four months?
