Hi Everyone,

I'm an American male waiting for my filipino fiancee to get her K1. Taking forever as you all know.

here is my question, I want to go see her in May but shortly after that we should be close to getting an interview. The last thing I want to do is need to take that trip twice close together.

Do I need to be at the interview? from my reading it seems that its only her but want to be sure.

about 12 years ago I went through this process and at that interview in DR at that time, I needed to be their. did this change?

When did you actually file for her? You do not have to be at the interview if you do not want to be there. I was there for my wife's interview and it was an invaluable experience for me and her.

I don't believe it's required anywhere for the petitioner to be present for the beneficiary's interview for a K1 Visa. Of course, you could certainly travel to visit her at that time simply to be present for moral support. I happened to plan my trip to visit my fiancé in Sweden during the time his interview was scheduled. I actually went to the embassy with him that morning and wasn't allowed inside, but it was an out of town trip (about a 3 hour train ride) so we'd gotten a hotel, and I just returned to our hotel and waited for him there. I was actually glad it worked out that way when the time came because it was much easier waiting for him to finish while just being 20 minutes away opposed to being over here in the states waiting for him to call me. Basically - it wouldn't be out of necessity for you to wait and go then.

Håll ut, y'all.

We filed at the end of Nov and got the case number in the beginning of Dec.

Being that I see now, I don't need to be at the interview I will see her in May.

Yeah it's definitely not required to go but it did help calm her nerves some that I went. Where in the Philippines is your fiancé from?
