I'm following you now! :) But remember, too, that he has 6 months to activate the K1 after receiving it. That, combined with the 90 days, should give you plenty of time to plan it all at once - esp. if you're not trying to plan it for the busy summer wedding season.

<_< Yeah....just want him here NOW, dammit!! Ahh - it will work out. Just hate the whole not-knowing-anything. I tend to be a bit of an organization nut. I want to write in dates on my little black calendar!

Ok, I must not be following your train of thought!

At any rate, we're going to do the courthouse thing first and then plan something later. No way we'd find a venue that's free during a weekend this summer anyway. Plus we want to get his AOS (mainly for AP and EAD) sent off ASAP.

Hehe - ah - it's early, my brain doesn't function well in the morning - I'm probably not making much sense!! It just that we don't know when he'll be able to come over because who knows how long we'll be stuck at CSC. The 90 days starts when he arrives. Just hard to nail down a date for a wedding before getting any sort of approval, but near impossible to book a venue to hold that many people without booking further than 3 months in advance. I know we could do the courthouse thing and then the big party later, but we really want to do it all on the same day. Just being too demanding, I suppose!!

I still may not be making sense. I claim Monday Morning Blues as my excuse.

I don't understand why some people are annoyed about what I said about only getting to spend 90 days with your fiancee before you get married.

Its called an "engagement" people. And you should enjoy it.

We have as much right as everyone else on this planet to an engagement, to spending quality time with each other in preparation for our marriage. You don't have the rest of your life to prepare for your marriage - you have you engagement period. Emails and phonecalls only go so far - spending quality time together cannot be replaced by anything.

This isn't an attack on people who don't have this opportunity - its my personal opinion. I think the engagement has importance in my relationship and this whole Visa process takes that away.

We are not going to do the courthouse thing. We are both committed Catholics and are getting married in a Church, before God. But each to their own - if thats what you want to do - good luck.

Mmmhmm....but as I said earlier...

Well - we want him to fly over ASAP after getting the visa. Guess we just want to "have our cake and eat it, too," huh?

Besides - it does take a lot of the fun out of wedding planning when it's done mostly over phone and email. I agree with you on that one, rainmaykr. To each his own!

I don't get what the problem is. A good deal of my wedding planning was done from the USA; I came into the UK on a fiancee visa in April 2001 and we were married the first week of June 2001. I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever. You get twice as much time on a UK fiancee visa as you do on a K-1 to get married, but he also has six months before he has to activate the visa.

So you might not get to have the absolute perfect fantasy wedding planning experience. Newsflash: Nobody does. Not even in the movies. Weddings are stressful, expensive, overblown, and time-consuming to plan. I guarantee at least one thing will go wrong at your wedding. That's just the way it is. If that 'thing' is that the flowers are late or the cake is lemon instead of vanilla, consider yourself lucky.

At our wedding, the flowers were late and the classic Daimler limo we hired got lost on his way from Bradford, so we had to start our wedding a whole 10 minutes late. We considered ourselves very lucky that our hiccups were that minor.

I've enjoyed the entire 2 1/2 years that we've been engaged. I'm ready to enjoy being his wife, people.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

It's really about compromise and getting things to work in the situation of marriage as part of a visa process. Yes the wedding is important but so is the visa. Whatever you choose to do is ok as long as it works. I'm sure tho that there would not be any religeous comeback if you did the courthouse thing and then had a service of blessing after the fact. Your vows would still be blessed by the church. :)
