I filed in October of 2017; I received acceptance notice followed by Biometric notice two weeks later. I have been waiting for the interview letter. its almost six months now, and I am concerned. Do I have to make calls?  I have a family emergency that requires me to travel abroad, my original passport expired and needed to travel. What can I do to make this happen urgently?

Get a new passport. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/apply-renew-passport/how-to-apply.html
Did you give them your email?
Maybe they sent the interview to the beneficiary by mail.
After the first month, I would have called them every day.

Depending on your location, this could be a quite normal wait time.

At this point, some emergency return permit/rushed passport renewal (if available) from the embassy of your original citizenship country is your only option.

There is nothing you can do but wait. I paper filed in June 2017, had my interview in 2-27-18. My oath is in 4-6-18 that's 10 months from start to finish. Just be patient it will come

well I filed in August and still no interview ! you still have to wait I'm sorry to say that ! you can still travel if its for a short period ! even if they issued your interview  letter it will take up to a month to be interviewed !

It's true I received the interview letter 5 weeks prior to the interview date 2-27-18 and my oath will be on 4-6-18 that's another 30 days. There is like 2 months of waiting between the interview and the oath ceremony
